Rant away, I think I've had the exact same conversations! LOL! Frustrating is a gross understatement.

The selective memory of JWs shouldn't come as a surprise. The organization is founded upon lies, so it's natural that it's indoctrinated members lie too. If they're confronted with a reasonable argument they'll lie, sidestep the question, or pretend they don't remember.

It's not possible for people to sit through years of meetings and read hundreds of publications and still deny such teachings as 1914 and their stand on education. I slept through most meetings, and rarely read watchtowers, yet these teachings are still clear in my mind. They are liars, and they are too cowardly to face up to it.

JWs make the organization and integral part of their personal identity. When anything embarrassing happens to the WTS the JW will perceive it as something personally embarrassing. When someone attacks the WTS the JW will perceive it as a personal attack.

I understand completely. Me and my sisters were always discouraged from getting any kind of higher education. And it made it hard on us financially. It wasn't until we started taking classes at night, did we start to get better jobs. And of course brothers and sisters in the hall didn't like that. They would say that the classes would keep us away from the meetings, even though the classes were not on meeting nights. I don't regret my education now. The supposed "new system" still isn't here yet.

Yes, I have had those conversations with people about things that they themselves specifically said should not be done ! (eg. going to college, associating with disfellowshipped relatives etc.)

They are abunch of lying bastards.

Yes, yes, yes.......and the reason the R&F are SO in denial is because the WTS publications are in denial. For example, they declare themselves to be the only channel between god and mankind while also declaring almost in the same breath that their writings are not inspired, thus relieving them of any responsibility should anyone make it known publicly among them that (OMG!!!) they've been wrong on numerous occasions.

It's kinda like someone standing in the middle of a very lumpily carpeted room oh-so-sincerely declaring that they've vacuumed.

This happens with non-dubs too. My parents used to put all kinds of pressure on us kids to steer us in certain directions. I was always very suseptable to their manipulations too. When I've brought some of these things up...say, why I went to a jr. college instead of a regular college or why I never took up a musical instrument or why I never continued art classes...they say it was all me. They don't have any recollection of the things they said or did that influenced my decision. Very, very frustrating.

The dubs have elevated this selective memory business to an art...of course, covering up for the WTS is of the utmost importance so everybody seems to have a handful of excuses on hand at all times Also, maybe its the way meetings are conducted...so boring and repetitious that people tend to zone out, but it seems like some can't even remember what was said in the public talk ten minutes after the speaker finishes talking. Rather convenient really.
