Your right Narkmeister......it's not so easy. Karl would have to represent any human who presents "the message" to others. I took Karl to represent religious leaders/figures who others donate their time and energies to because these leaders promise a million bucks to all who kiss the hankmeisters (god/jesus) ass. These leaders have hanks 'words' in his 'letter' to prove it. Then again......maybe I'm being a bit analytical of this little riddle and making it read more than what it says. I've been known to do that.
