Would You Buy Cigarettes For Your Friends?

When I go abroad, my smoking friends often ask me to bring cigarettes home with me. They can be purchased for a fraction of the price in France and the savings on a few hundred cigarettes can be quite considerable.

I always refuse. It makes me feel a bit priggish to do so, but I don't feel good about aiding someone to continue with a life threatening habit.

    Now I feel better!

I would buy my friends cigarettes...but only because I smoke. I think it's completely understandable why you wouldn't want to do it.

It's your choice and your right, but you are not the one who make them smoke or will get them to not smoke (it's an addiction that can be fixed by personnal resolution - "we" need to want it first). But you could have be the one who help them to save money anyway (they could die before to die because of their smoking habit and enjoy the saved money in other ways before). but that's an other story ...

I believe in letting everyone go to the Devil their own way. As long as they aren't asking me to do anything illegal (like getting them for someone who is underage) or take up to much space in my luggage...then sure I would buy them for em....

But I wouldn't judge you for not doing it, we all have to live with our own conscience.

I'm not sure about the laws there, but in Canada there's a limit on the amount of cigarettes you can legally bring back. If I bring cigarettes back they are for me, since I'm a smoker. I've never asked anyone to bring cigarettes back from the USA for me, and never would, even though you can get them for as low as 1/4 the Canadian price at the Duty Free shop. I don't have a problem paying the tax on cigarettes here. It helps to support the health care here, which will possibly provide me with chemotherapy one day.

I don't have any friends that do smoke, my brother likes his wacky baccy but that's about it.
Still, the friends I do have I care about and I wouldn't buy them fags either.

Same answer as Under74: I would, coz I smoke too (pipe tobacco usually, and a cigar once in a while).

Fluff question: is tobacco more expensive in Britain than in France now? (prices have risen a lot).

Serious moral question: does loving somebody mean (1) trying to protect him/her against him/herself or (2) accompanying him his/her choices of life and death?

I guess there is no universal and absolute answer to this one.

I might buy cigarettes for my enemies.

I would buy some nice scotch for my friends.

No. The elders might see me and I'd get disfellowshipped for smoking.
