I LEARNED THE TRUTH AT SEVENTEEN
THAT LOVE WAS MEANT FOR BEAUTY QUEENS
AND HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS WITH CLEAR SKINNED SMILES
WHO MARRIED YOUNG AND THEN RETIRED
THE VALENTINES I NEVER KNEW
THE FRIDAY NIGHT CHARADES OF YOUTH
WERE SPENT ON ONE MORE BEAUTIFUL
AT SEVENTEEN I LEARNED THE TRUTH
AND THOSE OF US WITH RAVAGED FACES
LACKING IN THE SOCIAL GRACES
DESPERATELY REMAINED AT HOME
INVENTING LOVERS ON THE PHONE
WHO CALLED TO SAY - COME DANCE WITH ME
AND MURMURED VAGUE OBSCENITIES
IT ISN'T ALL IT SEEMS AT SEVENTEEN
A BROWN EYED GIRL IN HAND ME DOWNS
WHOSE NAME I NEVER COULD PRONOUNCE
SAID - PITY PLEASE THE ONES WHO SERVE
THEY ONLY GET WHAT THEY DESERVE
THE RICH RELATIONED HOMETOWN QUEEN
MARRIES INTO WHAT SHE NEEDS
WITH A GUARANTEE OF COMPANY
AND HAVEN FOR THE ELDERLY
SO REMEMBER THOSE WHO WIN THE GAME
LOSE THE LOVE THEY SOUGHT TO GAIN
IN DEBENTURES OF QUALITY AND DUBIOUS INTEGRITY
THEIR SMALL-TOWN EYES WILL GAPE AT YOU
IN DULL SURPRISE WHEN PAYMENT DUE
EXCEEDS ACCOUNTS RECEIVED AT SEVENTEEN
(INSTRUMENTAL)
TO THOSE OF US WHO KNEW THE PAIN
OF VALENTINES THAT NEVER CAME
AND THOSE WHOSE NAMES WERE NEVER CALLED
WHEN CHOOSING SIDES FOR BASKETBALL
IT WAS LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY
THE WORLD WAS YOUNGER THAN TODAY
WHEN DREAMS WERE ALL THEY GAVE FOR FREE
TO UGLY DUCKLING GIRLS LIKE ME
WE ALL PLAY THE GAME, AND WHEN WE DARE
WE CHEAT OURSELVES AT SOLITAIRE
INVENTING LOVERS ON THE PHONE
REPENTING OTHER LIVES UNKNOWN
THAT CALL AND SAY - COME ON, DANCE WITH ME
AND MURMUR VAGUE OBSCENITIES
AT UGLY GIRLS LIKE ME, AT SEVENTEEN

Good choice Elsewhere. I know exactly what John meant.
Imagine, by John Lennon
Imagine Imagine there's no heaven, It's easy if you try, No hell below us, Above us only sky, Imagine all the people living for today... Imagine there's no countries, It isnt hard to do, Nothing to kill or die for, No religion too, Imagine all the people living life in peace... Imagine no possesions, I wonder if you can, No need for greed or hunger, A brotherhood of man, Imagine all the people Sharing all the world... You may say Im a dreamer, but Im not the only one, I hope some day you'll join us, And the world will live as one. |
I've got two...I know that's cheating, but I don't care.
Mr. Bad Example by Warren Zevon
I started as an altar boy working at the church
Learning all my holy moves, doing some research
Which led me to a cash box labelled "Children's Fund"
I'd leave the change and tuck the bills inside my cumberbund
I got a part-time job at my father's carpet store
Laying tackless stripping and housewives by the score
I loaded up their furniture and took it to Spokane
Auctioned off every last naugahyde divan
I'm very well acquainted with the seven deadly sins
I keep a busy schedule trying to fit them in
I'm proud to be a glutton and I don't have time for sloth
I'm greedy and I'm angry and I don't care who I cross
CHORUS
I'm Mr. Bad Example, intruder in the dirt
I llike to have a good time and I don't care who gets hurt
I'm Mr. Bad Example, take a look at me
I'll live to be a hundred and go down in history
Of course I went to law school and got a law degree
And counselled all my clients to plead insanity
Then worked in hair replacement swindling the bald
Where very few are chosen, fewer still are called
Then on to Monte Carlo play chemin de fer
I threw away the fortune I made transplanting hair
I put my last few francs down on a prostitute
Who took me up to her room to perform the flag salute
Whereupon I stole her passport and her wig
And headed for the airport and the midnight flight, you dig?
Fourteen hours later I was down in Adelaide
Looking through the want ads sipping Foster's in the shade
I opened up an agency somewhere down the line
To hire aboriginals to work the opal mines
But I attached their wages and took a whopping cut
And whisked away their workman's comp and pauperized the lot
CHORUS
I bought a first class ticket on Malaysian Air
Landed in Sri Lanka none the worse for wear
I'm thinking of retiring from all my dirty deals
See you in the next life, wake me up for meals
and, "Got To Do It" by Andrew W.K.You gotta keep up
You gotta keep going...
No you never let down
You gotta keep going
You gotta keep up
You gotta keep going
I went around the place where we once went before
But I never knew it hurt so bad
I wandered back again, but you just slammed the door
I never knew it hurt so bad
We were nothing but kids on top
Never gonna stop
We never let down
We gotta keep up
Keep our heads on 'high'
Never gonna die
'Cos we gotta keep it alive
When you're down on your luck
You gotta do it
'Cos you can't get enough
You gotta do it
You never give up (NO!)
You got to do it
Gotta do all the stuff that you love (no more turning)
When you're down on your luck
You gotta do it
And you're covered in mud
You gotta do it
You still going on (YEAH!)
You got to do it
Gotta do all the stuff that you love
You gotta keep up
You gotta keep going...
No you never let down
You gotta keep going
We gotta keep up
We gotta keep going
But you left me down so many times and took me back
But I'll never turn around again
And now my life is back
I'm back on the track
And I'll never burn it down again, No
'Cos we were nothing but kids on top
Never gonna stop
We never let down
We gotta keep up
Keep our heads on 'high'
Never gonna die
'Cos we gotta keep it alive
When you're down on your luck
You gotta do it
'Cos you can't get enough
You gotta do it
You never give up (NO!)
You got to do it
Gotta do all the stuff that you love (no more turning)
When you're down on your luck
You gotta do it
And you're covered in mud
You gotta do it
You still going on (YEAH!)
You got to do it
Gotta do all the stuff that you love (no more turning)
When you're down on your luck
You gotta do it
'Cos you can't get enough (YEAH!)
You got to do it
You never give up (NO!)
You got to do it
Gotta do all the stuff that you... Love
FOREVER YOUNG: Rod Stewart
When I was a dub, my "theme song" was Against The Wind by bob Seeger.
The line that sticks out most in my head is........"surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends".
Can't think of one that fits me today.

I would say Purple Rain-the whole album. I remember I wasn't allowed to listen to prince because we were JW...and now he's a JW-weird. I actually feel bad for the little guy. PRESTON-did you know Cum On Feel The Noize was originally done by Slade? AND Dave Hill of Slade was raised a Dub. I heard rumors he's back in...could be just a romor though.
"Loser", by Beck...eee he he
