Did you have time for a hobby when you were in the Org?

Most witnesses are too occupied to have a hobby. With all the meetings and field service and work, there isn't much time left for a hobby. And if you did find time for hobby, I'm sure the elders would have pressured you to use your spare time for the Kingdom, not hobbies.

Did you have a hobby while you were in the Org, or did you develop one after leaving?

I have always had a few hobbies, genealogy research, crocheting, and later I got into scrapbooking, but not to the extend I was able to do them after I left the WTS. I always used to love to sew, so used that as my creative outlet, and made many clothes for us and the children and for gifts.

I would never have had the time to do what I do now, when I had meetings, service and the other responsibilities I had back then.

I have always had interests in different things, and actively pursued them. The elders and others were constantly on my back to give up these interests, even though I was not a "low hour publisher". Even when I regular pioneered? they were harassing me to be more "balanced" by giving up my other interests. It's not enough for them to have their members give the cult first place in their lives. In their minds, the cult should be the ONLY thing in a persons life.

All of my hobbies I developed after I'd left the borg, went back to school, and achieved better employment to support myself and my family. I'd say that the most interesting and challenging was aviation. Achieved my dream of becoming a pilot a few years ago, so, lookout below, that lawnchair with wings you see in the sky might just be me !!!

Boy...were them brotha's green with envy when I told them that..........

Most witnesses I knew had hobbies. I had plenty. I served as an Elder and was in service most saterdays.

I think this question depends on your circumstances. If you were a woman with 4 kids and a deadbeat husband....you probably had no time for yourself. If you were a man with a demanding job withy odd hours.....and had kids, you had a hard time having a hobby. If you were older and didn't have the fortitude to put spiritual things first.....you surely didn't have time or the desire for a hobby. Everyone was different.

Since my hobby was researching the Bible, of course I had time!

Most of mine disappeared when I became an Elder. Before that I had a few.

"Buying out the opportune time", by leaving the WTS, was the "best course of life"...

    Oops.
    Guess I got a little over-excited there.
