LOL, this one is hilarious! We used to talk about those who missed because of

    "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome"

"Allergies to the new carpet, mold, etc."

    "migraines"

"just had a baby and doc said to stay in house for 6wks."

My mom and I used to talk about how they were just excuses...........wow! we were right! (my mom is still a JW, struggling of course, but won't admit it)

At the end of my life as a JW, my kids got sick, a LOT, my son's asthma would act up, my daughter has an emotional problem that I would use as an excuse, even though everyone said they would help me with her. Here's something I did to "ease" my conscience at that time though (and this is terrible, I know)
We had a phone system for those who couldn't make it. You would call in, and they would call you back and hook you up, live with the telephone. It worked best with a speakerphone of course, so you could lay in bed and not have to hold the phone to your ear.(yeah, ok) Well, I would turn the volume down, watch my favorite tv show or surf the internet, but it still showed that I was "on" and me and my kids would still be counted as attending the meeting. This helped the numbers stay up of course. The more phoning in the better, and if you had 3 way calling, you were great cause you could even hook up more people they didn't have enough lines for!

Two JWs who did not have access to these good excuses tapped on my door this morning. First time in 13 years and I blew it--I was in a rush and stared at that awful brochure thinking, can I take time to talk with them? So the young man in the sweater(!) asked if I was a religious person and I said (in a dazed tone) "yes" (and the voice in my head saying "WHAT? Since when?" thanked them and shut the door. Dang. Missed my chance to use all I've learned here.

There is no excuse for missing meetings or going out in field service. As light bearers of the truth, we have an obligation to feed from the table of Jehovah and share the fine spiritual food that we enjoy with others. We assist the Watchman class in sounding out the warning of impending doom. In order to do this effectively, we must put our priorities in order. As lovers of truth, our innermost desire is to enjoy sweet fellowship in the congregated throng and help those mourning over all the detestable things in the nations to come to the mountain of Jehovah and seek refuge in his house of pure worship. For as long as we may live, may we always put Kingdom interests first and resist our enemy Satan the Devil and his insidious tool, the internet!

especially on saturday field service or sunday morning am meetings..i had a hangover..ahhh, i mean a very bad migraine, you know unbelieveable headache, sick to stomach, etc....i wonder if a lot of us had that, is it contagious??

It's very contagious! Mine was (really) just a normal headache though lol.

Alot of times I would set my alarm just to get up and call the lady who would pick me up to say that I had woken up too late and then go back to sleep.

But I had lots of headaches and bouts of nausea and convenient insomnia the night before meetings.

But really I always prefered not to lie, I preferred to just embelish honest circumstances..same as lying, I know.

That's really one of the major reasons I left. I really hate to lie, and felt wrong about it.
