    Careers in the Organization?

How often have you heard young ones encouraged to make the truth their career? But what careers?

Of all the bright young male pioneers, a handful will make it to become COs. Less still will make it into any high position at the Bethels. And, if you are a bright ambitious young girl, there are virtually no options other than marrying an ambitious young brother.

In all the years I was associated with the organization, I only know if one younger sister who went through Gilead as a single sister, and that was because they needed someone to be a new partner for an existing missionary sister. The existing missionary sister obviously had been through Gilead in the earlier days when pairs of sisters would be invited to Gilead. Nowadays, only married couples go to Gilead, so absolutely no hope for 'faithful' single sisters to carve out a career in the organization.

You're right. Careers are lacking. However, you get a legal degree ... you're set for life!

Don't you think that it leaves people with an empty feeling. It makes people who are genuinely trying to make thier mark, to really "progress" in the org. but they can't. They see these ones who are missionaries, who are in bethel and so on, and they know that they've done absolutely everything they can to get there, sacrificed a normal life to get a shot at doing what they "know" is right and required.

And then there's nothing. Just emptiness, and a feeling of not doing enough.

And they have a firing policy that is similar to the more draconian fast food places - one or two screwups and you're outta there! Bad for morale, bad for business, bad for training expenditures... just self-defeating, really.

Gee, Ozzie's poll this wkd got me thinking about careers offered by the other prominent pyamid schemes. They can be slimey, take advantage of people's time and money with the carrot of wealth being spare time and money permanently focused in front of their face.

The WT is similar but goes that extra step that puts them in a class by themselves (and other religious cults) by using SALVATION as the MOTIVATION to purchase their products. The more you do, the more products you need, the more you spend (or feel obliged to contribute), the more they can use you as an example to get others to do more, to buy more products - on and on.....and if you do this you'll be approved by God and if you don't you'll die.

I pioneered? for over 2 years with a "career" as a missionary as my goal, and married a pioneer? sister? who had the same goal. My health went downhill in my late twenties though, and I had to stop pioneering?. The resentment of my now ex was obvious. It made me wonder if her goal of Gilead? was the only reason she married me.

"Is their a corporate ladder to heaven?"

I've often wondered that. How many magazines does one have to place? before they get to be annointed??

JW rumor has it that she's "doing much better in the truth" now that I'm gone.

I'm doing much better out of it.

Careers in the org? Let's see!!!!!!!!

What about pioneering? That's the best career in the whole wide world.

Then there is international work. What better career than this. You get to learn how to build kingdom halls and imagine the asset you will be in paradise when you can help restore the earth.

Gilead ( that was the career I was striving for)

Bethel service (what a great career this is--you get to be at the forefront of god's eartly organization)

Imagine you can be a career girl or guy and you don't have to go to school. You only need to go and knock on people's doors and offer the watchtowe and awake. How easy is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wannaexit( of the "I want to puke class every time I hear to build a career with god's organization" )

On a personal note, I gave up the only thing that I wanted to do in life ever since I was about 4 years old (I got accepted into med school but turned it down in favour of a career in the truth). In many respects I was successful in the truth, respected elder, etc.

But when a relatively minor incident with my kids arose (i.e. non-disfellowshipping), I was hounded off the BOEs. I protested at the time and said if I were a lawyer, a teacher or a doctor, would the relatively minor indescretions of my kids affect my professional standing? But, obviously what goes for the world, does not count in the 'truth'.
