I agree with Outlaw - organised religion will, unfortunately, be around for a very, very long time. Comparing religion to political ideologies, as TheOldHippie has done, is a very poor comparison, IMO.
Religion answers peoples' fears of death, 'judgement' and the afterlife. With a smidgeon of faith, peoples' fears can be allayed. So long as people are scared of dying or don't want to die, organised religion will exist in one form or another.
