Reading the thread about the JW postal worker killed, made me think long and hard about the truthfulness of what Cipic was stating, that the Society allows for ones to work in the post office but frowns upon driving a truck for a major company like Coca-Cola, because the possibility that one may have a route that goes to a military base for instance. Or maybe to a strip club for that matter, I mean the possibilities are almost endless. What kind of guidelines do they use in such cases? It was a very, although, heated, intresting argument that was presented. What truly are the guidelines for those within the walls of the Hall?

It's a moving target. Any high-control group makes up new rules on the fly to keep the worker bees from straying from the hive!

Whoa left feild. I know a P.O. that worked for coke 37 years. I know several JWs in fed-ex and ups. If you get into long haul truck driveing ill have to get out an abacus.

I knew an elder that worked on a military base. I agree with Carmel that all the talk bandied about which jobs are okay and which clients one can take are meant to keep Dubs second-guessing themselves. Remember, the rule is a JW plumber can accept a one time emergency service call at a church, but accepting a building contract is a different matter. Again, this didn't stop another elder I knew, whose boss was also a Witness.
It all reminds me of 1984, where pornography was distibuted by the government because the masses incorrectly thought it was illegal and Big Brother wanted them to feel like they were getting away with something.

I know two JW elders who have worked for UPS. One worked there so long he recently retired. The other one is still there after 20 years. No problems in their respective congos, obviously.
I, as a Dub, worked many years for FedEx. Was forced--against my will I tellya... against my will--to go into a couple of strip clubs DURING... uh... BUSINESS HOURS to make a delivery, too. Man I hated that! -

I'm truly naieve when it comes to what goes on in the truth. I spent so many years trying to get in that by the time I did, I was out so quick that I never got a chance to see the inside for what it was, but is this really a problem when it comes to being employed? I mean what happens when a witness works at a coveinience store and someone wants to buy a pack of cigarettes, or purchase a lottery ticket? Are the lines really drawn with that degree of uncertainty?

You can sell smokes or loto tickets only if you work for the store. If you own the store you will be DFed if you continue to sell those products. -

That is the JW way of life!
I worked for FedEx here in Halifax and was on the Navy Base several times a week. I never had a problem, but the way I saw it I wasn't supporting their efforts, I was just doing my job, that someone else would have done if I didn't.
