I was going to add this to a comment to a post of mine in Rune's topic "Why? Why? WHY???" (if anybody was paying attention to it) but I figured I would start my own thread on it.

I have always liked quotes, especially very profound life lessons revealed in a short quip.

One of my favorites is by Michel de Montaigne:

"Man is surely stark mad. For he cannot create a flea, but he makes Gods by the dozens."

    What is/are yours?

Nietzsche had a few good ones. 'God is dead. We have killed him.'

One of Nietzsche's favorite was Stendhal's: "God's best excuse is that he doesn't exist."

On a somewhat similar mood, Cioran's: "Johann Sebastian Bach is the best thing which ever happened to God."

(Freely translated from both French and memory.)

Oh, and from Nietzsche himself: "The gods are dead; they died laughing when they heard one of them saying he was the only one."
