Good points Midget-Sasquatch :)
Yes, speciation is "direct observation". And things like this can be carried out to excrucating minutia. Sometimes purely for the purpose of obfuscation.
But, not all direct observations, end up being exatly what they first appear. e.g.
Force = Mass x Accelleration was a direct, obvious, and brilliant observation by that guy with the apples.
But when time and space were later shown to be interdependant variables, rather than constants, this formula was shown to be incomplete. Even at non-relativistic velocities it is infinitecimally incorrect. Well except at v=0
Given the volume of data showing speciation to be real. It would take extrordinary evidence to falsify it. Thats all I'll give you :P
Yes. This is going too far :)

Ha! Ha!
I'll take what I can get Doc!
I was so satisfied with classical mechanics, but nnnnnooooooooo, reality always has to be just a step more complex doesn't it?
Take care

I don't think you can "prove" evolution, just like you can't "prove" creation. If there was indisputable evidence for evolution, no one would continue to believe in creation and visa versa.
I tend to think that there is a God and He started everything, but maybe we did evolve from lower life forms into what we are today....

Thank you, DrMike, for distinguishing between evidence and proof. It can be a frustrating experience trying to explain to a bible-believer whose first premise is that the bible is absolutely correct in all detail, that they are mixing faith with science and doing a very poor job of it. The bible is great for building faith. It is a lousy science text.
Well, for the age of our universe, I look at the evidence. There are stars we can see that are millions of light years away. That means those stars have been shining for at least millions of years.
The burgess shale up in the Rockies, I figure they are hard for creationists to explain. Evidence, evidence http://www.geo.ucalgary.ca/~macrae/Burgess_Shale/
I do believe in a Creator, by the way. But I have a problem with people trying to fit reality to the bible. It really should be the other way around. The world is a pretty big place.

Happy Guy :)
I personally believe the Big Bang is a plausible explanation which has some basis is science. I also believe in evolution for the same reason. I do not believe in the biblical explanation for the reason that it contradicts scientific fact and humans have been around alot longer than 6000 years.
The Big Bang theory is an explanation of how the universe evolved and it explains why the universe is expanding. It does not explain how the universe or matter originate. What created the ball of mass before it exploded? What caused the explosion (i.e. who lit the match)? I personally believe that a higher power is behind the seeds which were planted for the universe to sprout. I will believe that until science comes up with an explanation of how matter can be created from nothingness.

Hi Mary.
That is a perfectly reasoned point of view. And nobody has any business to try to dissuade you from it :)
As much as I can't stomach the creationists who feel it neccassary to push their "science" on people ( especially in the schools ), the scientists ( both real and pretend ) who literaly go out and try to "liberate" people from their beliefs are just as annoying.
"but maybe we did evolve from lower life forms into what we are today...."
150,000 years ago, we were all lawyers, politicians and used car salesman.
