They are trying to legally cover their butts.

    Was that on your list?

Sort of what Mulan is saying, but could it be that if the 'No Blood' card is replaced by a more generalised end of life form then when they change their NO BLOOD stand in a few years, or whatever, all those people who have died or refused treatment and died because of the prohibition on blood, they will then not be sued by the deceaseds relatives.

I would say other. People would miss the meeting with the new blood card and not renew theirs making it invalid and then not enough were asking for the other medical directive and they felt that everyone should have that too. I know my mom waited til going in for surgery to get the big piece of paper one.

IMHO, by combining these documents they are including in the 'blood card' document other 'choices' regarding blood fractions, expanders and other treatments. This gives the society, as stated above, an out legally. They can then claim that the individual had 'freedom of choice' and was not coerced religiously to do anything at all. I think it is a move toward eventually allowing blood transfusions, and escaping the ramifications. Does anyone know if the new card makes a direct statement like the old one in effect ' that as one of Jehovah's witnesses, I refuse...' ect? I think they will eventually make the card devoid of any mention of the organization directly. Jeff
