Oh yes, they got my free labor! I helped with the building of two. NOT quick builds either, long before those. I helped remodel one a few years ago. Lots of work, but I had a lot of fun too. The people I worked with made it so. I stayed away from the self-made bosses and "supervisors".

    Marilyn,
What happened to you is just pure disgusting!!! I can see what you mean by your statement.."depends on what you mean by helped".

You more than helped....but the WTBTS...they TOOK, TOOK, TOOK!!!!

ThinkersWife:..Yes, what a waste they made of lives!!! The years that can never be regained. We have only one consolation....we are now FREE!!

Angharad: I agree...I was only a kid, too....but no..why should they care about little kids getting injured on a work site????
    And as for the food....UGH!!!!!

Lindy: Glad you had 'fun', but like the rest of us you were nothing more than a useful servant....slave....whatever word suits.

    Hi,

Yes I helped build a KH. I worked the night shift for nearly a year so I could work on the hall during the day. My cousin and I hand dug the foundation, poured the concrete. I mixed the morter for the mason, a brother who would come over after working most of the day and we would work on the hall.

I can remember the first meeting we had there, we weren't through with it yet but we borrowed some chairs from the funeral home and had the memorial service there. I gave the talk and everyone was so happy to have our own place to meet. I was in my late 20s.

What a waste of my youth.

Yes, I helped to build 2, not quick build. We also renovated one. It was more fun than witnessing, of course, and we managed to do a bit of socialising at the same time.

    Great topic.

Yes, I helped build about four or five. But even THAT paled in comparison to the free labor I donated at the Henrietta, NY (outside of Rochester) assembly hall.

Every day for at least three or four months myself, my sister and a friend who was my age (we were all regular pioneers and in no postion to be donating any more than we were) drove the hour and a half to get there, work for free, feed ourselves, and drive home.

If you have ever sat on ANY of the chairs in Henrietta, you can thank me. I personally glued ALL of the backs and bottoms together.

(PS Ang--there was a child killed earlier this year or last at a quick-build. DUH. Children are NOT allowed on worldly construction sites; why do JWs allow it?)

HAHHAHA Did I work on QB’s???? HAHAHHAHA ohh yaaaaa!!! My Dad was on the regional building committee 12 years. He ALWAYS took the whole family, at first we’d stay with people, but then we bought a motor home. We’d go Wed or Thursday and leave Sunday!!! The first QB I was on I was 12 and I must say I LOVED it. I LOVED the QB’s I did. We had SOOOO much fun at them, I made tons of friends with people from all over, and it was a real social thing. I worked on the suspended ceiling crew the longest, and did the measuring and cutting, I also was on the decorative painting crew, the truss crew and I did a short stint with the bricks, even went to the brick school that they offered, but my wrist couldn’t take it for too long. I helped install bathroom partitions, I helped putty and work on finish trim.

The last several years I was also on the truss crew where I was point person, being as I was the tallest on the crew, that should tell you something!! At the last QB I was on I had to serve dessert!!! It was the first time I’d ever gotten snookered into food service, a friend of mine was put in charge of dessert and FORCED us to help. We called him dessert Nazi!!! Ahahhah we had fun though although I did lose whipping crème privileges and had to serve the pie instead HAHAHHAHA!!!!

I think the QB’s are the only thing I miss. I miss the friends and the fun and the laughs that we had. I had some wonderful times at the QB it’s defiantly a part of my life!!! And I don’t regret that at all. I learned how to do a lot of things, to work with people, and hopefully someday I’ll meet some of my QB friends here online!!!
