Yeah, but somehow there's a difference between naming your kids Josh and Tim and naming them Joshua and Timothy. Maybe it's some kind of esoteric sixth sense we've developed!
Naming your children Biblical names

All but one of my siblings has a biblical first name, though none would be considered unusual. Mine is biblical and fairly common in the UK but not in the US though. Of the 11 children in the next generation all but two have biblical names; my son being one of those that doesn't have a biblical name. The two non-biblical named kids have biblical middle names. My son's middle name is Alexander, which is Greek, but more than one character in the Bible is so named. Biblical names are still very common in Western society.
Among JWs, I have known Jethros, Seths, Jareds (not terribly unusual at all) and one Geness -- named after Genesis.
In the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, sixth brother, Frank, is supposedly named after Frankincense because it was the only name beginning with 'F' his mother could find in the Bible (he also smelled nice). There are actually three people named in the Bible whose names begin with 'F':
Felix, Festus, Fortunatus.Thirdson (aka Maher-shalal-hash-baz Jones)

mkr32208,
if "Noah Good Christian" comes to me for a job I'm sure as hell not hiring him! Why don't you just name your kid "can't ever get a job"...
Don't be too sure. Keep an eye out for a brilliant free-verse poet and performance artist name of "Joel Emmanuel" -- oh, wait, he calls himself Ungtartog now. Never mind

My husband and I are not religious people at all, but we named our son Joshua. We just love that name. My cousin who is also an
ex-witness named her newborn Elijah. I almost thought she was going to meetings again, since she is a sentimental type of person,
but thats not the case. Its just something about the sound of the names i think. -

A couple that went to our hall named their firstborn Dathan. He was about a year and a half when they changed it to Nathan, after someone pointed out who Dathan was.

Do you think if you had a kid and named it Jehovah that you would be blacklisted forevermore from all JWs ?? It might be hilarious.

although I have non JW friends who named their kids biblical names as well....
personally my two of my kids were sort of biblical names.. the first Nicolaous (we call him just Nick) was a faithful man in the bible.. and Jamiah which I found in a baby book meant "his life is Jehovah's"... that is my son Corey's middle name..

My Husband and I had stopped going to the KH by the time we had our daughter.
Her name is Eve. We named her after my brother Everett. He has three girls of his own and was never able to pass his name on ,so we did it for him. Her name also means Perfect and complete. Which she is.
This had nothing to do with the bible. My Mother had a fit. Said Eve was an evil name and refused to call her by it. She was calling her Eva. My Hubby told her that she was not welcome into our house anymore until she could learn to except our daughter and her name. She stopped that crap real quick.
