    Welcome Spock
wish you a good time here.
Can anybody explain me, why american mail witness are so crazy for star trek?

For some reason it appears the more "spiritual" you are the more you like Star Trek.

It appears to eminate from Brooklyn and Canadian branch bethelites, then spreads to the self-righteous pioneers in surrounding cities. These pioneers subsequently travel to South American countries to serve where the need is greater, thus spreading the "disease".

Other symptoms closely related to this are strange social "get-togethers" where self-righteous pioneers invite bethelites they like over to a "shoe-box" apartment in the city. Seated in a circle around the room, Bible and other psychological "games" are played out often involving spoons or other cutlery. Skating and Bowling could be involved if any outside activities are desired.

    Hope this helps

Perhaps the rigid and authoritarian world of the Enterprise bears some resemblance to the WTS? Especially for bethelites living a semi-monastic life.
Seems many are fascinated by X-files as well. I think the asexual, emotionless relationship of agents Scully and Mulder reminds them of perhaps a young but jaded C.O. couple. The truth is out there!

    Hey guys,

From an older female american, I don't get the fascination either. I like the x-files, however.

I personally think jw's are enthralled with science fiction because their lives tend to be quite sheltered and boring. The only time they use their imaginations is this type of thing.

We weren't even supposed to visual, too carefully, about the New System because we could cause divisions (machinery, electricity, money, etc.)

So, these type movies became harmless diversions. Has the Society ever written about the compulsive Trekkies? They've written about everything else.......

Funny post, Path. We used to play Spoons, until we were counseled that it caused "aggression." Perhaps the aggression was already there and pent up, huh?

Have to be careful about those skating parties - seems like an adult for every child must be present now. We've had one cong. picnic in the last 8 yrs. (didn't want to take the chance anyone would get in trouble). Elders don't want to chaperone a gathering for the same reasons. Kids don't want to have get-togethers, because of the fear of being hauled in the back school.

I think a lot of people are looking for ways to escape. If nothing else, through reading & movies. Seems to me that being a Jehovah's Witness tends to breed compulsive/obsessive behavior.
