Paying for healing

    Hi Everyone,

Searching the net for information regarding different spiritual healing methods, I was shocked at the prices some people are charging for healing! One website wanted £60 for one distance healing session. Assuming they actually do send you healing energy (how would you know if they didn't?) I still think this is extortionate.

The thing is, we all have healing ability. It is sort of a "take it free" thing. That said, I'm not against practitioners charging for their time. If someone is healing people all week, they do also need to pay their bills.

What do you think of those who charge for healing? Should there be a limit to the charges they make? What do you think of spiritual healing in general?

Note: most "spiritual" healers do NOT try to take the place of a doctor. These are complimentary therapies, carried out when the person has done everything they can medically.

    So what do you think?

By the way, this subject has prompted me to offer some free distance healing sessions. I use Usui Reiki. Check out my profile for more info.

they are for the most part charlatans

Should there be a limit to the charges they make?

it should be just like going to a regular doc, if it doesn't work then I aint paying..The proof still resides in the pudding.

What do you think of spiritual healing in general?

I am skeptical for the most part, but like with Dansk, if it says it helps him then so be it.

    Sincerely,

    Valis,

I don't think that "most" are charlatans. Some are. I know a fair few people who do Reiki and they charge. The reason for charging is two fold: they need to pay bills and they also want the recipient to attach a personal cost to what they're getting. This way, you don't get ungrateful people wasting your time and the person doesn't feel indebted in any way to the healer.

    Sirona,

A while back I was baptized in the spirit(pentecostal) and we used to pray for healings,,and I felt certain things happen. One time the paster(women about 65 years old) who was diagnost with a very deadly form of breast cancer,,and we would pray over her,, we would gather in a circle and start speaking in tongues and as you felt moved you would say something or lay your hands on someone. Well one meeting sunday morning we are all praying for her and all of a suden I feel moved with compassion for this lady and so lay my hand on her head,,and then people layed there hand on me and I felt this kind of static snapping electricity going from my hand to her head and she is feeling it too,,it was like little snaps and crackles on the palms of my hands,,I think I kept my hands on her head for about a minute,,she still alive,,I get emails from her,,I'm still on her general list it seems even though she has moved out of state.

So I'm saying I know there is something to it,,could be may different things,,energy,,spirit,,whatever it is I do feel we can perhaps control it by our thoughts or intentions,,I guess that might account for why bad magic is like a two edged sword.

    Good luck in your endevers.

    Hi Frankie,

Thanks for telling me about your experience.

I think that spiritual healing is a "don't knock it until you've tried it" type of thing. Sounds like you had a very powerful experience with channelled healing energy.

I have done group healing work aswell as solitary. In group healing sometimes I get waves and waves of tingles which go up from my feet (if standing) and sweep up my body and out of my head (if using the crown chakra) or out of my hands (in the case of hands on). Mostly when I do one-on-one healing, I feel slight tingles in my body but my hands warm up a lot and I can sense the energy with my hands.

I do have pretty strong feelings that because we get this free, how can we start charging tons of money to give it to others? Charging for time is reasonable, but getting rich on it isn't.

As someone who has and is undoubtedly benefiting from healing I have tremendous faith in it. I have received healing from a top Muslim healer, a number of Reiki practitioners, many distant healers (including here) and from healers at my local spiritualist church. NOT ONE of them has charged me (though I have given donations freely - because I wanted to).

Healing is a gift and I don't recall Jesus ever charging anyone. I was once recommended a healer in Harrogate (in Yorkshire, UK) who charges £40.00 per session. She expects clients to call at least once a week = £160.00 per month - and that's not including the travelling expenses of an hour each way! Needless to say, she didn't receive my custom.

I am against ANY charge for healing. Those who have the gift should be giving healing willingly. I do NOT, however, object to people making donations, as I do myself. Generally, I should say people would be more than happy to give a donation without being asked. This would undoubtedly help with any expenses incurred on the part of the healer.

I am not classifying this with healing, but my step dad used to use a "fruit tree limb" as a way to find water wells we lived in the southwest at the time where it was very dry( in Southern Arizona.) and he had a reputation for accuracy at finding the streams of underground water. Lots of folks tried to pay him and he always told them it was a 'gift' and he wouldn't take money for it.

As to the question whether a person should recieve pay , It seems IMO ,when a person names a certain amount and then expects a certain amount of business by the month as Dansk suggests, it moves to the catagory of " only for the money" the service is rendered. So I would imagine that a donation basis freely given fits better with the "gift" being shared for good not for fortune. Again only my opinion.

Recently I went to see a psychic medium in Kansas City over here for a reading. It went well, she was very accurate, and gave me some extremely interesting insights into some events in my life. Afterwards she mentioned that my chakras were blocked (which I have suspected for some time), and offered her distance healing service to me for the low low price of $200. As good a psychic as she is, there was no way I was paying that much.

Some of them are just very gifted people but don't realize that they recieved free, so they should give free also. Though, as Dansk said, I would happily have donated a good few bucks to help her keep up the good work.

I dunno - Jesus was SO good at his healing thing and he never charged anybody - although apparently he did accept contributions. I would avoid paying for it until after it worked.

It seems that a good healer, understanding that his efforts are not instant, perfect, and that those who approach are in difficult circumstances, would at most have a recommended contribution - kind of like the Met Museum or some of the better hospitals.

If you receive free, give free.

I don't know. I'm a bit torn about it. For instance, if I was to give up lots of my time (even infringing upon my current employment) then how would I pay my bills? I could be healing all day but I wouldn't be able to eat!

I think that sometimes it is appropriate to charge, but my problem is when the charges are WAY too high.

At the moment I am not doing this for a full time occupation so I don't charge.
