    Unfettered...Tertullian, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, and the anonymous author of Barnabas also freely cited 1 Enoch as inspired "scripture". Indeed, as the thread referenced above brought out, many Church Fathers (even Jerome!) regarded noncanonical books as inspired or even as scripture, though they do not belong to the canon. Only relatively recently (especially in Protestant Christianity) has canonicity, inspiration, and scriptural status been treated as the exclusive domain of the present 66-book Bible. Earlier Christians either had a more open canon or even with a closed canon still regarded other books as inspired or scriptural though not authoritative (canonical).

    Great! we are on the same page then. I just thought I said something that might have offended someone who may still be somewhat fundamental in their belief system. Didn't want to be a thread killer.
