Heavenly ham from Dorothy Lane Market, a witness owned mega-store. Very upscale and profitable. One of the best markets in the midwest. Very good service, clean cut workers, and a credit to the community. The owner is a terrific fellow with a beautiful wife and family and very personable and reasonable about the religion when he can make it. Very successful and wealthy. This was the best Christmas Eve celebration with my family yet. 8 below zero and 20 inches of snow on the ground this morning in Germantown, Ohio.
It's a Polish tradition to prepare 12 different dishes for Christmas Eve (!!!). Some of my family are still serious about this tradition. Carp fish, boiled cabbage, borshch, perogi.... Pole
In my 30 years as a JW.
We always had a "traditional" Turkey dinner on Christmas Day.
I also know that one of the "anointed" who was in our congregation also did. His excuse was that as all the produce of the earth belonged to Jehovah (I think its a Psalm that says that) then as Jehovahs people we could do what we liked with it.
Pole,
I used to live in Chicago and dated a wonderful Polish gal. We went to her brother's for Christmas dinner and it was fantastic . . .enjoyed all twelve dishes, and we had plenty of good vodka to go with it.
Tonight it's shrimp scampi, rice and beans, bread and wine.
Merry Christmas to you all.
This year we had Safeway Select spiral sliced ham, mashed potatoes, pork gravy, candied carrots, dinner rolls, celery with cream cheese, scalloped corn, summer sausage, crackers and dip, an assortment of Christmas cookies, Hershey Kisses, Almond Roca, pineapple cheese cake, and pumpkin bars.
We have various family members who live about an hour away come for dinner on Christmas Eve. We eat, exchange some gifts, and then divvy up the goodies. The next morning at our house we have ham and cheese omlettes for breakfast. The rest of the day for me is No Cooking! Just some reheating.
