Positive about jw

There are many thing i dont regret about jw

learning from jw about cristmas is one of them

The jw were very open about cristmas, going against the "system" require some strenght and that in itself attracted many to the jw org.

It teached me not to accept anything at face value and to question just about anything.

I concluded at early age that anybody and everybody could be wrong. I have benefit all along from such early conclusion, thanks to the jw..

But for some reason I did not question most jw teachings... I did questions some teaching and rules long ago..

I think it was due to lack of references. The "messengers" that passed around some weak messages against jw lacked credibility, in the first place they beleived in cristmas, a celebration that have been proven to be "pagan". Anything I ever read or heard did not refute jw doctrines.

There many other things i consider positive about jw, dont you?.

On the other hand, as Ray Franz says in his books we are not free of blame for accepting unfounded jw teachings, the most we can say is repeat that we have been "victims of victims", but the victim is not always without responsability... but if feels better when the victim can totally blame someone else.

One, you are a little general with your comment in this post. What about Christmas do you consider pagan? Just give one or two thing we can chew on. Also you stated that,

Anything I ever read or heard did not refute jw doctrines.

Do not know what you are reading, but it must only be WTS literture.

It is an admirable quality to be able to see positives in something riddled with so many negatives. Sometimes I wish I could do that instead of focusing on all of the bad things. I am sure I could think of some positives about being a JW if I thought REAL hard, but I doubt I would get to even five fingers on one hand.

Just a few comments, though. JWs are not the only ones who recognize the controversial background of Christmas. JWs relied on non-witness research when they decided that they should not celebrate Christmas. Some religions simply use Christmas as a time to focus on the good things that Jesus did in his life, and leave it up to individual families to decide how to celebrate it.

Also, JWs are, by far, not the only ones to "go against the system". All you have to do is read a history book to figure that out.

I am also curious as to what else you find positive about the JWs?

Hey! Anyone joining on their own, without growing up JW must have seen something positive, or they wouldn't have stayed around long enough for it to be an issue! Like many things in life we wouldn't repeat - be it a love, job, religious experiance, whatever - it is wholsome to reflect upon the positive experiences. Otherwise that time would be a TOTAL loss. Just because I made a fool of myself, skipped college, turned my back on friends, strained family relations (they are all non-JW's), and wen't on a pointless rebellion spree upon getting out does not make it a total waste. I had many good friends (some of which still talk to me, even!), learned a lot about myself, and people in general, stayed out of trouble, etc. A friend introduced me to the "truth." Sometimes I wish I had never met him. The funny thing is he is driving through my state today, and will be stopping by. I'm rambling now. I hope most share the view of myself and ONE's post.

    Positives?

1] I knew and worked with some lovely people, 2} I learned to read well, to speak before an audience and overcome shyness 3] I learned to appreciate books and an apetite for knowlege and research.

BUT none of that was unique to the WTS . It does in no way compensate for 1] a wasted life, 2] uncountable hours of wasted time in field service and meetings 3] The disappointment of realising that it is 'Just not true' 4] A life that might have been, if I had not based everything around 'Spiritual goals' which gave a totally cockeyed view of life and and its values

I think the analysis of BluesBrother is basically right. Let me share with you a little story:

I have a co-worker who has a son who lives out of State and he started talking about things that the family would do for the holidays. At some point he said that his son was going to India. At that moment, I asked surprised why. Then he explained that his son was a Sikh Muslim. Now just so you know, the Sikh faction is probably the most extremist and fundamentalist one of the muslim faith.

Then I asked why his son was attracted to this religion, to which he said: "he had a very tough time growing up; was involved with bad company, drugs and all. Then he moved to a comunity where there was this Sikh followers, and it was these people who straightened him up".

The point being: in every group, you may find some positives. Finding positives, however, doesn't mean that the balance is positive.

Interestingly, the point the ONE mention, Chrstimas, I view in a totally different light today. Christimas is viewed today as a time for family gathering and confraternization. I don't think it has much to do with religion anymore, if it ever had.

    Observador.

    Don't be daft, One.

If lies and deception are what you want then that's fair enough. Nobody can argue with that.

You can find some good even in the most wicked organization. Didn't Hitler and Mussolini make the trains run on time?

But why do you think that God would destroy EVERYONE who is not a JW or survivable by 'family merit'?

Christmas has lost most of its religious significance and has become like the humble wedding ring. It has a different meaning now. Remember, when Christ supposedly reviewed all the religions and only found the JWs favourable in 1919 they were still celebrating Christmas and Birthdays and he supposedly had no problem with that then.

Whatever you do, don't lie to yourself. If you just want it to be true and want to accept it then do that but the facts show that it is a self serving survivalist cult that prophecies falsely to a load of gullible victims.

    Triple A,

Do not know what you are reading, but it must only be WTS literture.

When i said "Anything I ever read or heard did not refute jw doctrines." Take into consideration the context, AT THAT TIME (long ago) I did not read or hear anyone to properly "refute jw doctrines"

What about Christmas do you consider pagan? Just give one or two thing we can chew on

    tons of info available

    http://de.essortment.com/christmaspagan_rece.htm

Few people realize that the origins of a form of Christmas was pagan & celebrated in Europe long before anyone there had heard of Jesus Christ.

The answer lies in the pagan origins of Christmas. In ancient Babylon, the feast of the Son of Isis (Goddess of Nature) was celebrated on December 25. Raucous partying, gluttonous eating and drinking, and gift-giving were traditions of this feast.

    Wild,

Also, JWs are, by far, not the only ones to "go against the system". All you have to do is read a history book to figure that out.

At least in modern times i dont know of any organized group in the western world that has been so consistant, openly going "against the system" regarding CRISTMAS, which is the example in this case, there other examples i did not mention.

I am also curious as to what else you find positive about the JWs?

    stay tuned for more

    OUT,

Hey! Anyone joining on their own, without growing up JW must have seen something positive

In my case i was raised jw, from very early age but still appreciate a lot of things learned..

    BluesBrother,

BUT none of that was unique to the WTS

BUT as far as i know they worked hard to make it known to everyone.

If "compesate" or not will depend on each individual. Being practical anyone can turn a lemon into a lemonade.

    Observador,

The point being: in every group, you may find some positives. Finding positives, however, doesn't mean that the balance is positive.

But the balance could be positive, each case is different

Must exjw think only of the negative things they experienced or leaned AND positive things they missed,

BUT they forget the positive things they learned and experienced AND negative things they avoided by being jw.

    Gill,

If lies and deception are what you want then that's fair enough.

do you think i want that? How do you know?

But why do you think that God would destroy EVERYONE who is not a JW or survivable by 'family merit'?

    do i "think" that?
