You know, that came to my mind earlier today, that there are a lot of jw's thinking about the 'brothers and sisters' over there...and a f**k everyone else kind of attitude. I couldn't live with myself thinking that way, and being told not to donate money to charities like the red cross in order to help disaster victims.

Mary Great for you to say what you did!

I said "..You know, that kind of attitude is why Witnesses are viewed as a JOKE."

You didn't say that out loud, did you?

I certainly did. I'm not known in the congregation for being meak and mild.

    Mary...

    YOU ROCK !!!!!!

I know things about some prominent people in the congregation and de elders know that I know..........They don't want it coming out so I figure that's why they keep their distance and don't give me (too much) grief........it's nice to be able to hold stuff like this over their heads.
o0o, what kinda things? inquiring minds wanna know...

They're saying in the news that about a third of the dead are children.

ahhh I dunno...I have to say that most of the witnesses I knew didn't have a bad attitude about this kind of thing. Of course they wondered how many of the JWs were in a disaster...to the very faithful, it is like wondering how many of your extended family is in trouble.

I think it is right to tell the congregations what they are doing, but ludicrious to think that they are doing all they can. If they spend the same percentage of the Watchtower wealth on helping those in need that the big "evil" Catholic church does, then maybe they can toot their horn some. I am not a huge fan of the Catholic faith, but they know how to give; I am not referring to the work their missionaries do to try to lure new recruits, but they throw money all over the world.

If I can afford to give any money to this effort, it will probably be sent to the Red Cross or CARE.

Yes, this is a terrible tragedy. But many dubs won't give it much thought except as an opportunity to witness to people when they go out in FS this weekend.

In 2001, the Saturday after 9/11, the idiot conducting our meeting for field service got thru his entire 10 minutes without evening mentioning the tragedy. It was only as he was waving the magazines around and discussing "talking points" that someone raised a hand and suggested we keep in mind that most folks are going to be thinking about New York City and the terrorist attacks there. He was slow to respond; it was almost as if he wasn't aware of the news.

I think this is typical and totally expected behavior in a cult that pits its members against the rest of the world and withdraws from that world and its cares (and woes).

Then I wondered to myself how many self-righteous jw's would make comments about how they're always the first ones there.Yeah Right!!!

When have they been known to be first on disaster scenes? Hell, when someone in their OWN CONG. has a house fire, flooding, etc. the "strong" ones are always too busy in service to help. When my family was in trouble, it was invariably the "spiritually weak" ones who gave by far the most help.

You know what would have been funny. If they said "well at least all those people will be ressurected in the new order."
