Did You Have Aspirations In The Organization??

I never aspired to be any thing, but I was appointed to every position in the congregation, including the PO. I pioneered during vacation from school, was regular always in service because it was expected of me. I always volunteered at assemblies too. I was a good JW outwardly at least, but I don't think it was really from my heart.

I tried, and then in one meeting I went from the verge of being a MS to being reproved. Short form of the story is: I was doing awesome when I was narced out for getting drunk over a year prior at my bachelor party. I was accussed of being a drunk, like I was hammered all the time. Stupid! But one of the elders in the hall was known for being tipsy at every wedding. Go figure. Just more proof it's just a bunch of average guys on a power trip, who think they're God.

And I just got finished saying something just like this to a dear friend of mine. I always felt that what I was doing was not because it was what I wanted to, but because it was expected of me. Always doing, in order to feel a part of, because it was what everyone else did, because I wished to appear spiritual before everyone else. Not having any hint or clue as to my doing these things were all for the wrong reasons.

Currently I am trying to un-aspire to some of these "privileges" if thats a word or not, I dont know. As I mentioned in another thread last week being an elder is a joke. Most do not or should not make time for others and this includes shepherding calls, judicial case, etc since their own families are often a mess.

Like Undecided, I never especially aspired to be anything. Being raised in the WTS, with my grandfather, dad and uncle being appointed Elders when the Elder system came in in '72, I found myself naturally doing what was expected. We always seemed to have COs, Missionaries, Pioneers and Elders in the house.

I Pioneered from School (had to come off, due to financial difficulties ), became an Elder, Convention and International Public Speaker, held down nigh on every position in the Congregation except PO, and was being groomed for CO work. My wife had also Pioneered from school, and we were well liked in the Congregation and Circuit. We regularly had the CO stay with us (about 40% of the time), but I kid not when I say that it was nothing to do with social climbing and everything to do with having been raised that way.

You might think that it was because my Dad was an Elder that things worked out that way. However, given that he was kicked out of Bethel in his first year, "deleted" as an Elder three times (well, once he was given the opportunity to stand down, rather than be taken off), and wasn't an Elder when I was appointed as Ministerial Servant or an Elder I expect it was potentially a hinderance. Oh, and I was once privately reproved, as a kid

I saw plenty of folks who "aspired" and it wasn't always a pretty sight. At times it was downright embarrassing, when an individual asked for lots of menial jobs just to get on the radar.

I was a ministerial servant at one point in my tenure as a certified dub. The experience was too much for me and ruined any romanticized aspirations I had to move up the chain of command. Unfortunately after I came out to the elders in my congregation any possible hopes I had to restart my climb were dashed to a million pieces, and the most I could of ever hoped for was being "Bethel Butt Boy".

    Cheers!

I became a Regular Pioneer...with hopes of being a Special Pioneer and then being a Missionary. *PUKE*

Aspirations are limited when one is a woman. Cleaning toilets in Brooklyn Bethel was one of them...
