There were indeed non-JWs in the past. Some real characters.

The idea has been advanced that the corporation is actually some outside group with insidious goals. Nope. The members are insidious enough in their rubber stamp. The Society follows "the Society."

Replacement members have been C A R E F U L L Y selected. The ones I know personally are about as sweet and placid as one can imagine, followers following followers following followers--quite happy to get their ticket to go to the annual meeting and to agree upon everything the Lord wants ...

:: Yes, the GB are no part of the corporation therefore gave up any voting rights.

That's what's incorrect. As individuals the GB members may be part of a corporation but they now are not officers or directors thereof.

There are a number of Watch Tower or Watchtower entities that may exist only as a letterhead. I've negotiated convention contracts on such prior to execution of an agreement between the venue and the New York corporation. In recent years these procedures are rigidly controlled.

A tip for those "following the money": The Treasurer's office was always part of the Pennsylvania corporation. Today I see Treasurer's correspondence under the NY corporation. Makes you go hmmmmmm.

Dearest Maximus... may you have peace!

You are correct about GB members possibly still being corporate shareholders with voting rights albeit no longer directors. However, I must disagree with you as regards to the members. I know of a family from a US territory, who, in exchange for land on which to build a Kingdom Hall in that territory, received shares in the corporation as partial compensation back in the 1930's. And they weren't Witnesses.

I don't think a corporation can discriminate based on religion in the sale of its shares, even if a closed corporation. It might have income restrictions, but religious affiliation I am not so sure; I may be wrong. I mean, can they write a prospectus that says you HAVE to be a JW and say, you were, but later, weren't, relinquish such shares? I don't think the US Government allows a for-profit corporation to operate that way. And the 'holding' company IS for-profit. It is the publishing and religious companies that are non-profit. Otherwise, why not simply buy everyone out?

I can see where after 1945 they made such offerings avaiable only to certain invididuals. But what of those who weren't JWs; can they force them to change? What about the shares left to heirs? Do they automatically revert to the Society upon the death of the holder? Who would make such an investment?

If you know something different, can you 'enlighten' me, please? I would very much appreciate it. Not that I care... I don't care WHAT they do. I just like 'information'. Thank you.

    And peace to you!

    Shelby, shelby Shelby ....sigh

why do you insist on doing this to yourself over and over.

Here's one last opportunity. Ask your Lord or whatever voice you hear for the Truth on this matter as to the current makeup of the voting member so the Org.

Let me know, let us all know what "he" says to you and we'll take it from there..Okay? And to make it even more fair, since 'JustAmom' seems to pop up everytime your back is against the wall get them to do the same, compare notes and then we can discuss 'the truth of the matter'

Kismet, Kismet, Kismet... why in the WORLD would I ask him that? What do they mean to him? Or to me? Can you imagine me saying, "Oh, hey, Lord, uh, just what is the makeup of the Society's shareholders?"
Knowing the makeup of the Society's shareholders will not add ONE cubit to my lifespan. There is no benefit to me in such information. I asked out of curiosity, plain and simple. If I am going to ask my Lord something, it will be something of benefit... to me... or to someone else.

Silly one, you know neither the power of the spirit, nor its purpose. I am a servant, not a spirit medium, a psychic or a diviner. You want to know such insignificance from the spirit? Then YOU ask the spirit.

'Earthling' man... always letting oneself be employed by the 'birdcatcher'... running around trying to set 'traps'. Be caerful that you don't fall into your own, 'kay, Kis'?

Well I am glad to see you at least learn from your mistakes Shelby.

It wasn't just a few weeks back that you 'inquired' as to the Forum Director and made all these wild claims that JanG was actually tthe ForumDirector of H20.

I sat back and laughed throughout that whole situation. Your "lord' misled you ...oh sorry you changed that..you misinterpretted his words to you ...one would think the almighty would be more eloquent.

Fine don't ask Shelby. I'll just give you a hint. The bulk of your thread and JustaMom's is erroneous.

I wasn't commenting on the past, but on the present. Voting members are JWs. Maybe not in the past, but today that is the case. I have been to the Annual Meeting, and heard the roll-call of voting members. All of them are either anointed or other sheep. Period.

Shelby, I see Seeker has already cleared up your question to me.

There are no non-JW members of the Pennsylvania corporation at the present time, or any other. Through death or buy-out they were replaced.

    Best,
    Max

    hello everyone !
I'm a little bit confused. I always thought the Governing body and only the governing body voted.
To Seeker, How did these people become members able to vote ? and what did they vote on ?
Stock shares ??? I never knew their was stock. How did you guys find this out ? Do most JW's know this ? Perhaps the information was in a watchtower that I never read or mentioned in a meeting I missed.
Do these shareholders get to keep the money that they may make ?
Has anyone been able to look up the stock and see what its worth??

Isn't that just the way? I mean, aren't we all here, in this forum, because of precisely that problem, as manifested thru the ages?
