    FairMind,

You used the quote "no natural affection" and said you don't think it applies to true Christians.

    You are absolutely right!

2Timothy 3: 3 says "having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanders, without selfcontrol, fierce, without love of goodness."

This is Jesus' answer to the question about 'the signs of the times'. ... "But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here."

The description Jesus gave here is of unbelievers and apostates.

DHL: Ouch. What horrible parents, even by JW standards. Through my own experiences with my family, I know that the ones that fanatically shun me, are dysfunctional ANYWAYS, with or without the religion. JW religion justifys and encourages their dysfunction. It is not you baby, it is them.

    Love Jez

    Hi Jez,

    thanx for soliciting.

You mentioned such people were already dysfunctional and just get support in this by their belief. Looking at my parents history I could easily come to that conclusion, too, because both of them grew up in the org. But after all,

It is not you baby, it is them.

    Love Jez

Yeah! No 1 priority today is for me to take best care of myself and to get out of the way of myself. I was troubled with this for so long until it came to my mind one day that I simply needed to accept them the way they are and that I could never be made responsible for their actions. I just had to let my parents go. Realising this I was able to reestablish my sanity and move on. Only sometimes the old "Why can't they be as I want them to?" pops up again and then I have to give myself an occasional kick in the a** to stop the moaning.

Thank you all for welcoming me!

It's great to talk to people on common grounds. Outsiders mostly just don't seem to get it. And how could they?

    a fiend indeed:

    Keep reading - vs. 6,7:

For from these arise those men who slyly work their way into households and lead as their captives weak women loaded down with sins, led by various desires, always learning and yet never able to come to an accurate knowledge of truth.

This sounds a lot more like JWs than any "unbelievers" or "apostates".

funkyderek ... I beg to differ. You have just proven my point beautifully. Unbelievers and apostates ... (verse 5) "having a form of godly devotion but proving false to it's power, and from these turn away."

By all means. You won't be disfellowshipped for having your own opinion here.

You have just proven my point beautifully.

I'm sure I have. It's something I've noticed about JW apologists here. Any reply to their posts "proves their point" somehow.

    Unbelievers and apostates ...

By this, of course, you mean those who do not believe your little religion is the truth. It's very difficult to defend that as the original meaning of the text.

"having a form of godly devotion but proving false to it's power, and from these turn away."

I have no godly devotion, nor do I claim to. You're the one who does. And yet, you disobey the explicit instructions of those whom you defend as God's representatives. JWs in general claim to be the only ones serving God, but they do not live as Jesus did. They do not show the love he claimed would be the hallmark of his followers.

Let's look at verses 6 and 7 again, you may have missed my point

For from these arise those men who slyly work their way into households

I certainly don't do that. Who do you know that "slyly work their way into households" with brightly-coloured books and promises of eternal life?

and lead as their captives weak women loaded down with sins, led by various desires,

These are the very people who seem to be the prime target of your religion's conversion work. Vulnerable women, looking for a way to assuage some sort of undeserved guilt, or allowing themselves to be dazzled by the Watchtower's false promises.

always learning and yet never able to come to an accurate knowledge of truth.

What better describes JWs than this line? Five meetings and hours of prestudy every week, for a lifetime in many cases ad not only can few JWs defend their beliefs from the Bible alone, but the teachings change constantly making it impossible for anyone who follows that religion to "come to an accurate knowledge of truth".
