I went back 5 years ago because one of my neighbors was a JW and passed on. It was someone I had known growing up as a JW. I went to attend the funeral talk at the kingdom hall out of respect because there was no wake at a funeral home. I also went because I was a good neighbor.

I attended with my father who had been an elder and a friend of this deceased person. After the talk , Some old JW friends came up to us and said hello; most kept their distance and just stared at us.

When my father passed on 2 years later, not one of these individuals came to my fathers service; much less called my mother to offer condolences. So much for good neighbors.

This proved to me what tartars these people are.

I've been once or twice in the last year. Outside of seeing some old "friends" it was really boring and dull. The parts were poorly prepared, the audience answers were read from the page. Absolutely no feeling in the parts or answers. Absolutely no brain power was being exerted. I listened close at first to see if I could catch some stupid comment but it was so mind numbingly boring that I gave up and zoned out and daydreamed the rest of the meeting.

One of these days I'm going to go back one last time. For some sense of closure I need to go back and tell them to shove it. When, I don't know. But I think it's going to be soon.

I just don't go any more - I simply stopped going just over a year ago after a life time in.

I have been just once - to the memorial last year. I has nervous and felt ill at ease in what I once considered my spiritual home.

I'm kinda surprised that they keep contacting you, especially at work. In the 10 years I have been disfellowshipped I have NEVER once been contacted by the elders or anyone else for that matter. And they say that they contact a person once every year or so, that's a bald face LIE. I know that for a fact, and I have also been in two different states and have not been contacted by an elder, so it's not just one congregation that is not contacting. As for going back to a meeting, why do you want to put yourself thru that when you have already said that the thought of it makes you sick? I think it just makes the emotional damage all that much more worse. People that leave cult's dont go back for "one more meeting" with the cult. There's a reason why they dont. Think about it. You have to fight the urge to go back there, sometimes we go back for our family and friendships, but we're not really going back to learn about god, were going back purely for the social aspect of it. And remember, they can be VERY persuasive in trying to get you to go back, they are very good actors. Be strong.

I was really surprised at the strong reaction I had to the thought of going to a meeting again. The thought really makes me feel physically sick.

Me too. Physically ill. Just as I would if someone suggested I go to a meeting of a human sacrifice cult. JWs give me the goose bumps--they are evil, and I want nothing to do with them.
