Anyone here read fantasy novels?
I know most of us have been away with the fairies, for real. So I can understand if some give the genre a wide berth.
But I love it.

For guys, I'd highly recommend the John Carter/Mars novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Suposedly there are plans to make a movie based on the first novel. I sure hope they get it done before Armmageido comes :P
The fantasy is ok so long as its not represented as the gospel truth.

Sure, I have read the Shanarra series by Terry Brooks,
Annals of the Dark Company
The Elric Saga
Dragon Riders of Pern
Peirs Anthony, Apprentice Adept and pretty much all of his series...Incarnations of Immortality was one of my faves..
Orson Scott Card, Seventh Son series
Robert Jordan, Eye of The World series
I could go on..

It's quite a few years since I read any fantasy novels. Maybe I should dig a few out of my attic.
But the very best I ever read was Julian May. The Many Colored Land, The Golden Torc, The Non-Born King, The Adversary, Intervention, Jack the Bodiless, Diamond Mask, Magnificat.
I've read the Saga of the Exiles twice and I do think they opened my mind to other concepts and helped me to leave the WTS. Not bad for a set of novels!
I suppose they are more Si-fi than Fantasy.

Anyone remember "The Tales of Gor"... Kind of racy for the time, but interesting...

My favourite author is Stephen Lawhead. His Pendragon cycle retells the whole Merlin, King Arthur story.
He also does a nice line in Historical novels. Having a great series based around the crusades. -

YES - 'Revelation, its grand climax at hand' - lol.
Alternatively, if you like fairies, ''ONCE'', by James Herbert - but better still, 'Nobody True'', by the same author.
