A blog is just a hyped up term for "my home page" where uninteresting people you do not care about post about boring things that are happening in their life that you have no interest in whatsoever. "Here is a picture of my dog" combined with an opinion about something or other.
Everyone thinks they are a writer or a journalist !
There are a handful of good blogs where company employees or people with expertise in some field post some interesting stuff, articles with nuggets of knowledge or progress on some project that is of interest.
... but unfortunately the general level of blogs is very poor. Many start them, few update them for more than a month or so (perhaps they get as bored with them as everyone else does).

I am imagining such a future where everybody has an opinion and nobody can defend it. Joey Tribbiani "How You Doin'" will be elected president of the United States of America by online public vote. But his term of office will be a short three months when Martha Stewart http://www.savemartha.com/ makes a surprise run from behind and takes control over Joey's fan sites. In Australia, it will be Kath and Kim.
Britain, those dark intellectuals, elect the Blackadder.
Canada? What Canada? We will have schizm'd in to California North, Ninivut, New France, America Annex West, and those itsy bitsy bits to the east will be the New Found Land. The capital will be in Avonlea, PEI, and our prime minister will be an immigrant, Akage no An.

Good writing, fit for publishing, takes a lot of work. Blogs, on the other hand, are easy. Too easy. The audience may be the entire WWW, but what are the chances that your grade seven English teacher will find it?
