BUSH: HOLDING THREE JOBS 'UNIQUELY AMERICAN'
    Tues Feb 8 2005 9:27:01 ET

Last Friday when promoting social security reform with 'regular' citizens in Omaha, Nebraska, President Bush walked into an awkward unscripted moment in which he stated that carrying three jobs at a time is 'uniquely American.'

While talking with audience participants, the president met Mary Mornin, a woman in her late fifties who told the president she was a divorced mother of three, including a 'mentally challenged' son.

The President comforted Mornin on the security of social security stating that 'the promises made will be kept by the government.'

But without prompting Mornin began to elaborate on her life circumstances.

    Begin transcript:

MS. MORNIN: That's good, because I work three jobs and I feel like I contribute.

THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs?

    MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes.

THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.)

Makes me glad I'm not American. I work one job and I don't spend enough time at home. I can only imagine what working 3 jobs would do to me.

Ironic Reminder: During his first term in office, George W Bush spent 48% of it on vacation. *cough*

I hate the fact that government won't give americans a choice with social security . I would rather have my money to invest the way I feel like , which is the american way , than to have government tell me I'm going to live on a fixed income but better have more than that to survive . Nobody can live on social security alone . It was a bad idea from day one . I am so sick of how they want to make peoples lives better overseas but how americans should just be willing to sacrifice for it .

good point lostreality . I don't feel more secure just because the military is in Iraq. The US is now trillions of dollars in dept.It seems everytime the US gets involved with nation building it's nothing but a miserable failure.

He's actually PLEASED that someone has to work three jobs? A man who until now had a hard time holding down ONE?

Well what do you expect...its the economy he has helped to create. A country where-in you NEED to work 3 jobs just to pay the bills, you never see your family...how uniquelly american indeed.

Typical lib fear of hard work. My dad had to work 2 jobs during Billy-boy's second term to keep us fed. I at one time worked 2 jobs so I can pay for my personal business needs. There's actually something commendable abot working more than one job, if you have the energy to do it.

So lostreality, checked the latest unemployment and GDP figures? Last time I checked, the first was down and the latter was up. Yeah, this economy is such a bad thing.
