I have to agree with most of what Rebellious said but, I do think that people generally fall into two categories: 1) Loners 2) Joiners. While most "Loners" can deal socially but, prefer to be alone or with a limited number, "Joiners "don't do very well unless surrounded by a crowd. These are the same people who before ending one relationship, are jumping into another. I think they are confusing being alone with being lonely.

    Very true.

People have different emotional needs, and some of them choose to use religion to meet them. I also believe there's nothing wrong with religion (provided it's not a destructive group).

People have fulfilled their emotional needs by joining religions for thousands of years--affiliation, socialization, structure, morals, connecting with their internal sense of spirituality, meditation, etc. For many years, religion was also a vehicle for people to learn language/literacy, experience literature, music, and art, when they would have had little or no opportunity to experience those things outside of a church. Churches were the center of culture itself.

I don't have any of those needs that I can't fulfill alone, but I don't have any issues with others who do. I don't see it as a weakness, just a life choice.

People either agree with him wholeheartedly or disagree vehemently but Richard Dawkins views are always interesting

I personally think all religions spring from a fear of death. All religions have some kind of afterlife whether it's heaven, re-incarnation, resurection and a belief system is built up to facilitate the illusion that it's possible.

The answer has to be yes.

Religion/God appears to be hard-wired in our brains. There has been no society in the history of modern man that has not had a concept of God. Are some pepple more predisposed to this than others? Again yes, that is why some become priests, nuns, and .... JWs.
