Dawn - LDS missionaries wear white shirts , sober ties and dark coloured suits because its in the 'Missionary Handbook' let me quote: "Keep your appearance suitable for a representative of the Lord ... Dress conservatively. Elders:wear white shirts and conservative ties. Wear business suits in conservative colors while proselyting and to all meetings, unless you are directed otherwise by your mission president." .. and so on...

If you live in Brooklyn I'll assure you won't see one of the GB come to your doors. It's the ole "Do as I say and not as I do" thing.
