Shunned by the WalMart people greeter!

  Kwin and I went to our local WalMart, and what do you know, the "people greeter" completely avoids us!! I was a little shocked because we haven't da'd ourselves or been df'd - not to mention IT'S HIS JOB TO SAY HELLO TO EVERYONE! We had seen him at the McDonald's in the store a few weeks ago - he said hi to our 4 year old and walked past us... thought maybe he didn't recognize me. But today, he saw us, I said hello, and he turned away and avoided any contact what-so-ever. The same thing on the way out. Definetly saw us and made effort not to say hi or acknowlege us at all - he wouldn't even look at us! (we were the only ones coming/going at the time, so it's not like he was busy). Needless to say, Kwin called the store to speak directly to the manager and told her exactly what happened, and made sure to mention that he is a Witness and that they have a habit of shunning people who no longer go to their church. She said that whatever happens outside the workplace should stay outside the workplace, and that it was unacceptable, as soon as he gets back from lunch she is going to call him in to talk about it. Knowing this "brother" he is going to turn beet red and be very flustered about the whole thing. I should mention that he is an elder too. I'd like to see him talk his way out of this!! It's ridiculous how the nicest people (he was a very nice "brother") can be so malicious at the same time. Completely two-faced. That's all I have to say!

  I am so glad you called the manager. That is ridiculous. I used to get that from some of the witnesses who came in the restaurant where I worked. They would not place their order with me. And if they did, they would say only what they wanted and not say thanks or anything. My coworkers all noticed it and said what a stupid thing it was. Most of the witnesses were still extremely friendly, thouough, or at least cordial and polite.

  LMAO. Good for Kwin and speaking to the manager. Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall when this elder gets talked too.

  Another thing I find so funny about this, is, great job for an Elder still LMAO!! I'm sure he's raking in the cash for his retirement.

  Good for y'all in complaining. Not just about JW shunning but about poor customer service. I'm a big believer in avoiding businesses that treat you badly.

  W people like that it's always nice to walk right up to them, like two feet away from them, give them a big smile and say hello brother. It's the 'loving' thing to do But, i wouldn't go as far as licking them on the side of their face No, i wouldn't do that.

  I should mention that he is an elder too.

  An elder working at a Wal-Mart? Its my experience that the elders are the only ones with good jobs, seriously.

  Good for you calling the manager ,this is his job to greet people no matter who they are and his narrow mindness of them should be left at home.

  LMAO!!! That is just too rich! I love it when the JW rules come back around to bite them.

  I can see four possible outcomes from this...

  1. He quits
  2. He grudgingly says hello and violates 2 John 10-11 according to the WTS's teachings. In this case you will have to smile and say "2 John 10 and 11" every time he greets you.
  3. He rationalizes that he is an elder and therefore able to talk to DFed and DAed people. Note: In this case anytime he speaks it will be considered a "Shepherding Call" and everything said will be covered under Clergy Privilege meaning he cannot repeat anything you say without you being able to sue him.
  4. He sues Wal-Mart and drags a "freedom of religion" lawsuit through the courts.

  You will have to keep us up to date... I want to know which he views as more important: The "laws of the sovereign lord of the universe" or a minimum wage paycheck.

  I was about to pop in this thread and say, "Couldn't be! Wal-Mart takes its' customer service very seriously!" But then I saw why. Silly elder. This would make an excellent Question from Readers. "Is it appropriate for elders to take employment where they may be required to be friendly to Bad Association?"

  As a side-note, I was rabidly anti-Wal-Mart (worried about american takeover of local business and all that) until I saw a greeter insist on staying with an elderly customer until her cab arrived. He then escorted her to the vehicle. I tried to imagine the same service at a local Eaton's, Bay, Woodwards, or Sears. In those department stores, I was lucky to locate a service representative at all. I was extra lucky if they didn't look annoyed that I bothered them. Now, most of those department stores are either gone or a shadow of their former glory.

  After that, I have been a solid Wal-Mart convert. It seems that Watchtower and Customer Service don't mix.
