I'm a Vikings fan.
I agree with what an earlier poster said about the Patriots having team chemistry. The Minnesota Vikings need to copy that formula, and build a TEAM of very good players, not built around one superstar.
No great team is built around a wide receiver. Some great teams are built around very good quarterbacks, and the Vikings have one in Daunte Culpepper. This is his team now.
I remember that the Vikings' Super Bowl teams of the 1970's were built around a great defense, in particular the defensive line known as the "Purple People Eaters". They need to concentrate on building their defense if they will ever be north of a .500 record before 2010.
The success of the Vikings depends on the moves they make to get shore up their defense. The Vikings will have to get a veteran wide receiver to complement Nate Burleson, and will have to draft for help on the defensive line and in the secondary.
Randy Moss's time in Minnesota was about up, just like coach Dennis Green's time was up when he left the team in a state of shambles. The act has worn thin.
Randy had great individual numbers, but the team still was too reliant on an offense that would explode once every so often. Meanwhile, below-average quarterbacks consistently ran up big numbers against the Vikings defense. Weak defense is why the Vikings stumbled around last year, and it's also the reason why Peyton Manning and the Indy Colts didn't make it to the Super Bowl (and won't anytime soon).
I've been saying for a good part of this year, it was time to trade Moss away and get some players to work with. I'm sorry. I know the man has talent but I remember the days when the Vikings were a TEAM.. remember Jake Reed and Cris Carter? they knew how to play as a team.. Moss came on the team all cocky and has never changed. It's like the Lakers, you can't build a team around one player.. stupid..
and Moss was an embarrasement in his behavior off the field.. jc, he got impatient and pushed a pedestrian out of his way with his car (sad but ONLY one example of his stupidity!).. he thinks way too much of himself
and like was already said which I added to as well.. you can't have it all on one guy.. The other teams always knew to cover him..
I'm sorry.. but I am glad he is going..
but CRR.. if you REALLY are giving up your fanhood.. I want my hat back!
i'm sure no one has suggested this yet so i think i will be the first to do so. how about the PACKERS!!!!
When I first read the subject line I thought it said: I Hereby Recounce My Viking Manhood
Oh Blondie...You are TOO FUNNY!!!
Since I KNOW that you detest the Packers...(I grew up watching the Packers with my late, great, departed dad and I shan't change for anything in the world)... may I suggest the Steelers? Good old working class team.
Please don't hate me because I'm a Packer fan.
