Similar story in my area. A jw at retirement age got dfd for alchoholism, then reinstated, then dfd, then reinstated. The last time i talked to him, i was not yet dfd, but was apostate. This old jw was trying to justify himself by telling me about the bible studies he was conducting and his door to door time dispite having a hard time walking due to bad knees.
This was a guy who was a big wheel co for decades. During the duplessie ban, he got into fights w cops. He could make or break other dubs in their wt careers. I did not try to burst the wt bubble in which he lived. At the time, i could only feel sorry for him.
"Slowly I came to understand that this communion had been a fatal experience for me. It had proved hollow; more than that, it had proved to be a total loss. I knew that I would never again be able to participate in this ceremony. "Why, that is not religion at all," I thought. "It is the absence of God; the church is a place I should not go to. It is not life which is there, but death." 6
This is exactly the feelings I had on the day of my baptism at age 12. Although it took me another two and a half years to get away from the JW cult, I became convinced of the lies of the Society from top to bottom that eventful day.
