I just saw Million Dollar Baby tonight. Wow, that was a powerful movie! I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet, but I wasn't prepared for that ending. I'm hoping Hillary Swank gets the Oscar.

How did you like the movie? Think it is Oscar-worthy?

I heard about the ending now I have absolutly no desire to see the movie. I wont spoil it for anyone though by saying what exactly pissed me off about it though.

The 'priest' shocked me. Indeed ending was different. My brother was a professional boxer and I use to train with him. For a women boxer I found it interesting.

Apparently she had sores on her heel and didn't say anything about it, she almost didn't finish the movie.

If she doesn't get the Oscar, I'd be surprise, then again, I didn't see the other contenders.

I saw with my GF. She is training to box and we both were impressed with the flick. It is not your typical "Rocky" type movie. I would not own it on DVD but I'm glad I saw it.

I wanted to respond to pr_capone's comments because they intrigued me.

The characters in Million Dollar Baby make a decision which you don't agre with but at least the movie shows up to that point why that decision was made from the characters' perspective. I will admit the ending jolted me because it is a brutal, ugly resolution but the film analyzes the pain both characters go through in order to make it. The sadness of the church scenes and Morgan Freeman's narration are worth alone the price of admission. I wasn't surprised by Hillary's Swank's performance, she has to win the Oscar.

Hillary Swank was perfect, but the movie itself was a little too earnest for my tastes, overall I give it a B.

pr and preston... yep. The movie is not what you expect. Preston... it's not that one doesn't agree with the decision that is the problem, it's that the character is stripped of all options, when such a scenario is completely unrealistic.

There, that's not a spoiler is it? We need a thread with a *spoiler* alert so this can be discussed. This movie has a powerful message but built on completely faulty (and dare I add, a little deceitful) premises.

Okay, gonna add here, I haven't seen it yet, but I've been reading the reviews and discussion. I'm not sure I'm going to see it because I find the script disturbing.

That is the perfect word to describe this film: disturbing.

The story and the fantastic acting stab you in the gut. Rather painful, actually.

It is a great movie. I do find some of the character to be cliche. But it works. I give it an A. Great...but not a classic.

The movie is billed as a female boxing story... I understand about plot twists and all but it almost seemed like someone was trying to push an agenda with this.

It remended me of the movie with Denzel Washington "Jon Q Public" where it almost seemed as a stab at HMO's more than an actual story being told.

Either way, I am sure the acting is phenomenal... just look at the cast. Its still not one that I will be seeing any time soon.
