When I had my Mercury Tracer (Mercury's Ford Escort), I hit 100,000 miles and the mileage started OVER!!! It was like they didn't want to bother putting the 6th spot in the odometer, because they didn't expect it to last that long! LOL

No, I meant european cars. From what i understood, there's no distinctly national car any more. Engines are made in country, bodies in another and so on. So-called competitors share engine makers and so it goes on.
This is the same with many products. The car industry has partners around the world. GM and FORD in the USA sell and are partners with European car companies.
A vehicle is not just built in one country anymore. You can see the same thing in electronics. It might say Sony on the box but it is made in Taiwan or China.
All products are made as cheap as possible and marketed to sell for as much as possible. They are designed with a finite life span for we live in a consumer society and consumption is what spins the wheels of commerce.

Our Jag has was 200,000 miles on the clock when we bought it and we're told that it should keep going for another 100,000 if we treat it right!
