Oh I witnessed one in a congo in Texas. We were voting on funds for new Kingdom Hall. There was a call for a 2nd. and all hell broke lose. The elder in the audience said it was being handled all wrong and the elder on the platform torted something back. they did this back and forth. I was like........woohoo........whats going on here. as it turned out the vote was taken back and we never got a new hall.

another occasion a school overseer was giving counsel to a young one. He was cruel. A brother from the audience said he was mean.......in front of all in the school and walked out of the hall.

When I was 10, the bookstudy was in our house. After it was over one night, I was sent to my room while all the adults had a hushed meeting about Bro R, a really old PO who was saying racist and sexist remarks from the platform...they discussed the matter and decided to give him an ultimatum--he step "aside" (never "down," because that would imply that the elders were "above" the r & f!) or they report him to the society. He was very disgruntled and self-righteous, but chose to step aside, and died shortly thereafter.

I recently met a guy who had been a JW for 45 years, the last 20 as an Elder. He moved round the country and served in at least half a dozen congregations. In all those years he said he never knew of an Elders meeting that didn't end up in one almighty argument or even a fight. Usually between Elders vying for control of congregation. He said it makes him laugh when the ordinary JW oublisher thinks these Elders meetings are all calm and spiritual.

At one local congregation in this area the Elders met regularly, turned out that they were meeting for a drinking session. It was only found out when a fight developed and it ended up with Elders brawling in the street. The police were called. Word got to Bethel, they sent a couple of heavyweights up to sort things out. Removed all the Elders and appointed new ones. Because there was no one to run the congregation for about a month, its members went to nearby KH's like ours. We were told it was because they were having their KH redecorated!!!

When we returned from missionary work the local elders ganged up on my father, fearing the CO may see fit to fit him into their tight little group.

There were many heated discussion with elders, that I wasn't privy to. We soon moved to another country, but my father never made it to elder there either. Whether that was due to what had happened here or because his kid turned into a long haired lout who refused to get up on stage or bang on doors I wouldn't know and I'm sure he doesn't want to tell me.
