I remember the congregation where I was serving as a special pioneer before I went to Bethel. There were three elders, and one moved away. The two others were brothers-in-law, caricaturally opposite: one fat, jovial and pretty laxist, the other skinny, stern and strict. They disagreed and quarrelled constantly over everything.
To make it work nonetheless, the CO had no better idea than appointing me (a 21 y.o. MS) as a "deputy elder" and have them co-operate... that was tough but fun sometimes -- I remember several "elder" meetings when both threatened to resign. Don't know how it worked when I left...

There was a missionary who returned to our area after spending some time in South America. He felt he was qualified to be appointed as an elder, but the elder body said he had to wait until the CO visit. Apparently, he argued with them about it for a while, and then they decided to switch congregations. Funnily enough, he got appointed right away in the other congregation. There was "bad blood" between him and the original BOE ever after.

We had a former CO - from the days of Russell that was constantly in trouble with the other elders. He made many public issues about things that he disagreed with - but he died an elder - so I guess his ticket is punched 'Paradise'.....

We had a major disagreement between our CO and our BOE. It resulted in our entire BOE being deleted and then the CO sent in some other elders from a neighboring hall to run our congregation for a while.

In my experience of serving as an elder for many years, bodies of elders are often disjointed and quarrelsome.
