    LongHairGal,

Their treatment of single women is appalling

This comment sure brought up memories. Yes, you're correct. Single sisters are viewed as competition to some, and temptation to others.

There I was single, independent all the way, with an education, a good job, nice savings to live the lifestyle I wanted, traveling often and all. I was viewed as much trouble, so the couples or even the elders were always looking for mates on my behalf, until they successfully married me off with a nice ministerial servant, soon-to-be named elder.

Too bad, though, for this fellow. I love him a lot, and I can feel he does love me, but he's into the JW life big time and since I'm not he cannot progress to the degree he wants.

For the good of all, they should've accepted me being single 'til I found on my own a fellow that was much interested, or lack there of, in the JW lifestyle as I was.

    Hi again,

Thank you all again for your warm welcome. In answer to the question if I read a certain person's posts - maybe I did. I don't always get the chance to come here.

I also want to say that I am really horrified at the amount of pain many of you have suffered at the hands of people in the congregation and how there was no real justice (you were expected to absorb the problem - whatever it was). I am sure all of you were far better Christians than I was!! I was always criticized because I didn't "widen out" but I am glad I didn't. You never knew what you were widening out to and I always felt I had to hold them at bay. You realize it is worse for a single woman because she has no man to "protect her". I realized instinctively that they do not respect boundaries. I got criticism because some people said I was "hard to get close to". That isn't entirely true. It is just that I saw from a distance how some others were treated when they did let people into their lives. Now, I realize that some people there are perfectly happy and I have seen many friendships so I cannot say my experience applies to everybody else. My friends there were few and far between and can be counted on one hand.

You?re spot on. It?s the way they can get away with it under the guise of religious freedom and cry persecution and apostasy when threatened that gets my goat. You go for it girl and vent it out for us all to hear. By the way do you have a loudhailer and know the location of several KH?s in you local area?

Hello mtbatoon: I confess I don't know what a loudhailer is (I'm from the tri-state New York area). LHG

Sorry my first language is English. I believe you refer to them as a megaphone.

    Welcome LHG,

Great to have you here. You're gonna like it! Everything you said is so true. I know from the standpoint of being an ex elder how a lot of them treated single sisters. Sure glad I'm out and free.

always on the fringes because I work full time

Haha, I can relate to THAT one. I betcha they have told you on many occasions to give up your job. Make more effort to serve Jehovah, take the first step and you will see that Jehovah will bless your efforts abundantly. I've heard it all and it used to tick me off quite a bit. Single women have to put food on the table and buy clothes as well, and since most don't have a college education because it is looked down upon within the organization, they have to take jobs that don't pay well, and thus work full time, or even two jobs, in order to make a living.

    Welcome to the forum!!
