Going back to when I was last out on "field ministry" in late 1990's . We could work a whole road and not find anyone in. Go back at different times, mornings, afternoons. evenings, weekends, only thing we never tried was calling at midnight. . But you would still have been lucky to have spoken to a dozen people in that road over a period of a month. You just knew that every JW out with you was waiting for the hour to pass then they could go off pleased with themselves.
Sometimes I watch them come down the road I live in, usually on a Sunday afternoon. I can see a row of 50 houses from where I am. Its a laugh to watch a pair of JW's worked their way down the row.
Knock or ring, stand chatting for two minutes, maybe knock or ring again, chat a bit more. Move to next house repeat.
Sometimes when someone answers door you can see the surprise on the JW's faces as their suddenly realise they have to speak to someone or show a pair of magazines. Then when householder says no and closes the door, is that a look of relief I see on the JW's face.
But when they meet the rest of the JW's out that morning, they will say what a nice talk they had with one person.
This process is repeat road after road, day after day. Then they dare say how wonderfully they are preaching the good news.
