I believe that ANY human being should be able to choose for themself. If you end up in a vegetative state, then hopefully you set your intentions in writing beforehand. As for someone who ends up paralyzed, again, it is their body and their choice; not my place or anyone else's to impose our will upon them.
I do not think that the decision to end one's life should be taken lightly. I believe that we are here to overcome our troubles, and learn from the experience. I also believe that if we "opt out" early, that we just have to repeat it again.

An adult has the right to do with his or her body as he she thinks fit.
It is not the right to die, but the right of self ownership.

Nathan,
Exactly my thoughts. The notion of "rights" has no application in such situations.
I had a close member of my family dying in awful pain for 9 long months. He couldn't say a word, but we think he was conscious to the end. It is simply cruel to let a person experience that kind of thing if they can and do express their wish to die.

I wouldn't want to live a life of pain and anguish.

I think every person should have free will and should be able to have the right to die if they want to. The only exception is if they are mentally ill or unstable. The problem is that sometimes that can be hard to prove or determine and is sometimes a very subjective judgement.
I just know that if I ever become terminally ill, I will fight as long as I can, but I want to reserve the right say my goodbyes and exit this world in my own style. Hopefully, I will have people around me who will support my decision and be there with me.
