I can remember the elders telling one sister that she could not cut her hair without her husband's permission.

How I reacted to that one 20 years ago... they never mentioned it again... lol

We had an annointed pio sis that looked like Crystal Gayle and had hair just as long if not longer than hers. I loved to sit behind her at the meetings wishing for hair that long. And as you know, it's hard for us Black sistahs to even get hair that long, with us gettin' our hair did and everything.

I was talked to for my baby son having long curls. I reacted with a very sarcastic reply. I always had long hair to my but from the age of 9 or so. I hae had it really short on a couple of occasions but now it is once again past my shoulders. Everyone says I have "great hair" Whatever that means LOL

Wow, is that hair for real?? My hair is pretty long, it goes just under the back pockets of my jeans. Indeed, washing is a royal pain. I don't use too much shampoo, but I do use between a third and a quarter of a large bottle of conditioner every time I wash it. After drying it with a towel, I have to use lots of detangler, and then it still takes me about 20 minutes to brush it out. I braid it as soon as it is brushed out, and it takes about 20 hours to dry completely. Any hair that grows longer than your waist becomes uncomfortable, imo. People also constantly make remarks about my hair, which I don't like, because I don't like the attention. The reason why my hair is so long is because I'm saving for a wig for a friend who has a hair problem and is going completely bald. I can't wait to have it cut.

I had long hair until I was 11, and my mom finally relented and let me cut it. It does not feel good when you accidently sit on your hair, and it gives you whiplash!

Later, I had a short bob, just below my ears. I got talked to by an elder who told me that hair above the shoulders for women was a "worldy" sign of lesbianism. He may have read the scripture quoted above.

I asked him what it was he wanted me to do...as hair doesn't grow that quickly! He didn't have an answer.

My mom tried to make me grow it out...she used to think I was weird for buying boys' running shoes (less expensive, fit better)...so this just added to her lesbian theory.
