Another thing about Selties, they bark a lot.
Out in the coutnry, a family had beautiful Shelties. The neighbors complained about their barking and the dogs had their voice boxes removed. Very sad indeed.
Meet the pup......

larc, thanks for sharing the story of Chelsie and George with me.
I recently lost one of my parakeets and have been grieving her loss. When woke up this morning I realized I have a sweet puppy who I've already grown attached to in a very short time, I think I've been in a way pre-morning the inevitable. Gosh I cried so much over my bird I have no idea what it will be like to loose Samba and as sad as it seems to think about this I know it's what's been on my mind. We really do get attached to our pets.
Well, sorry to share my sad stories. I will say that we had many good years with those two dogs.
And that is my conclusion, enjoy them while we have them. -

larc, about the barking yes I heard that when I was researching if this is the dog we wanted to take and saw a lot being said about Shelties and barking and asked the previous owner about it. I wasn't surprised that she said "no he doesn't bark much".........but you know she was right he really doesn't!
I've even left him outside one day in the backyard and our neighbors on either side said they never heard him. Course he has a really soft bark I've hardly ever heard him in full voice, it's a wimpy bark if you ask me. One I can live with!
Well as long as he doesn't see a squirrel in the yard or even across the street he's pretty quiet!

Arggghh...my link didn't work? I am using mozilla and for some reason I have the hardest time w/this board and mozilla. I copied and pasted and it seemed to work for me. I currently have 17 budgies and 8 cockatiels. Hens laying eggs (both tiels and budgies) that should be hatching soon. I just called someone about two parrolets but I am gonna pass on them. Tough decision though! hehe

LOL I hear ya! I had been wanting a dog for a long time because they interact with you so much more that birds and our cat, but they do require a lot more attention which has been an adjustment for me. One thing I do love is he gets me out doors a lot for ball games (he loves to play soccer and tennis) and loves to go for walks!
I am going to have to put in a lot more time with Newberg to get her to be finger tamed like Scooter was, if I could just get past her biting! She really bites hard! Draws blood! Scooter never bit me and would come to my finger anytime I put it in the cage because she knew I was going to let her out of the cage to fly around the house, Newberg hasn't figured this one out yet and freaks out when I put my hand in the cage. Lots of work to do with her.
If it wasn't raining I would be out now walking Samba, darn rain!
