Greetings and welcome Socrates. Yes, this forum welcomes everyone and anyone. I like your approach of listening both sides of a story and drawing your own conclusions.

I could describe JW's in two words but its' to blunt. I'll PM you. Stick around, we could use an objective mind in our midst.

    Welcome, Socrates.

If you came here to find out about the Watchtower Society, then this is a great place to do research---and to hear from people who have been Jehovah's Witnesses. Most of us discovered after joining, that its history and doctrinology have been hidden from us, and that we had been deliberately lied to while we "studied" the religion.

They don't actually study the bible itself, but the student must read and discuss two of the publications that are cleverly designed to teach a point (supposedly from the bible) yet is presented in a different way than mainstream religions. It's all very tricky and deceptive, but it has "worked" on 6 million people.

    Primarily,

The Watchower Society (WTS) teaches that THEY are the only religion approved and blessed by God himself.

They claim that they have direct communication from God.

They claim that Jesus has already come and has judged (only) them worthy.

They claim that every other religion on earth is from Satan, and that they must become JWs to survive "the End" which has been given several target dates to happen They have not (obviously) gotten one of these dates right.

They don't allow any fellowship with those that have left the WTS.

They strongly counsel against any fellowship with nonJWs, even close family and friends.

Going from door to door and trying to sell their literature with the goal of making new recruits is mandatory.

This is only a tiny bit of what the WTS is all about, but it's a start on your search. The WTS cannot BE put into one paragraph!

Quickly, WTS stands for Watchtower Society, the legal instrument and publishing agency used by the Jehovah's Witnesses.

It's tough to briefly summarize what JWs believe. For their sanitized version, try www.watchtower.org

My last landlord before I bought my house was a practicing Hindu, a good man, and taught me a lot. It's a religion I'd be interested in if I could resolve my spiritual issues with gods existing.

You probably won't find a forum that is pro- Jehovah's Witness. The reason for that is that Jehovah's Witnesses are not allowed to have any opinions of their own. If a group of practicing JW's decided to get together a forum they would probably get disfellowshipped for not consulting with the organization first.

To sum up the JW's in a few words:

They are a publishing company that whole heartedly believes that they are God's spokesman and that the only way to have a relationship with God is through their company.

    I hope that helps.

May I add my welcome to you, Socrates?! Welcome to the JWD forum!!! I look forward to reading more posts by you...

Here is a helpful quote taken from the website http://quotes.watchtower.ca/

It is from the Jehovah's Witnesses/Watch Tower Society publication You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth

    *** You Can live Forever (1982, 1990) p.255 ***

Do not conclude that there are different roads, or ways, that you can follow to gain life in God's new system. There is only one. There was just one ark that survived the Flood, not a number of boats. And there will be only one organization?God's visible organization ? that will survive the fast-approaching "great tribulation." It is simply not true that all religions lead to the same goal... You must be part of Jehovah's organization, doing God's will, in order to receive his blessing of everlasting life...

    [Emphasis Added]

I hope that helps you understand at least one of the most important basic underlying principles of their belief structure. I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness but am a member no longer.

Welcome to the forum Socrates. Your above statement is true to some extent. That is to say just like snakes you can learn something from the ones you should stay away from. ..It is unfortunate that so many people get "enlightened" about the Witness religion the hard way. Some snakes are best left in the zoo or better yet in the hands of the off pentecostal suicider. Welcome again and have a great day.

    Sincerely,
