8 years ago a funnel cloud ( tornado which did not touch down) swept over my property and split a 150 year old oak tree down the middle. It cost me $2000. to have the tree removed. If the tree had come down it would have crushed the maids cottage it was towering over....

Aside from that; I did see "The Wizard of Oz" and the movie "Twister". That is as close as I care to get....

I've never experienced one, though at times they do come this way, especially so in the western parts of PA.

One thing that amazes me is how snowstorms are so hyped around here. While a snowstorm can cause problems, they are usually not destructive. And yet, if one tunes in to weather forecasts, the hype is sometimes unreal. Recently, one forecaster at Accuweather characterized a snow storm on Feb 28 as a possible "Armageddon" storm. I think the term "Armageddon" ought to be reserved strictly for things like hurricanes and tornadoes and such, and of course that thing that jws are so looking forward to.

in my life, I've experienced tornados, earthquakes, hurricanes and blizzards..

    still standing...

the bad thing in areas prone to earthquakes and hurricanes, you rarely have basements to hold up in, till the warning is over...

Seems like the most common trait in all the tornados is the loud and frightening sound. It's just the opposite with an earthquake, there is such an eerie silence just before it happens, and than just a low rumble that you more feel than hear.

We lived in Kansas for a few years, and I saw funnel clouds which never touched down. The thought of a tornado really scared me.

When we first moved there, I didn't realize they did a test on the sirens every so often. I woke up, heard a siren and headed for the bathtub. I was shaking. Then, nothing happened. I finally worked up enough courage to leave the bathroom and turn on the TV. It was all just a test.

Here in the province of Quebec, we get about 5 tiny tornadoes a year. Usually they are force 0 or 1. Often I've seen very menacing clouds, and tornado alerts were given, but luckily nothing happened.

    I'm from Oklahoma...of course I have!

I was riding with my dad (while he worked EMS) in Tulsa one night in 1993 when East Tulsa got hit. Cut a 300 yard path for about 4 miles right through Catoosa, including across I-44. We responded right after, and hail was still coming down (Quarter-sized).

On the overpass, a Ford Taurus (I knew this because I saw the name plate) crushed into the size of a large golf cart...the engine was still running. The three passengers weren't.
