for women the classy dressy disco look helped many a hot JW babe look like a high dollar call girl at many a District Convention!

According to hillybilly's description man of you sisters looked like Nancy Allen in a Brian DePalma film.

my brother used to get so ticked because my mom would have one of the elders cut his hair....

Sassy, that reminded me of the time the service overseer made me go shopping with him for razirs at OSCO because he didn't like my facial hair.

My husband had beautiful long hair that even little old ladies would walk up to him and tell him how nice it was , then he became a jw and off it went.,,,,,,,,,,i still hate them for that.

Not only did MS and some elders have longish hair in the 70's, they also wore leisure suits and gave talks wearing them. I also remember the shorter brothers wearing some platform shoes.

I sure wish I hadn't become a JW so young- I missed the disco scene.

    Well.........YES!

My hair was longer in the 70's because I had hair then.

Always kept it about 1/3 over my ears and parted in the middle. Along with my mustache. The style of the day!

Never had anything said at all........and I was a MS then and gave talks and all.

That was the big fuss with me, I had the longest hair of anyone giving talks and still considered in good standing. It was all one length down to my collar. That was the magic button though, once it passed the collar I needed to cut it. It's now down to the middle of my back.

Well , there will be whole congregations that might not get in to the new system

Lol. I remember hearing that in lil' hick cong.s too!! As if God's going to kick your ass because you don't wear Levi's action slacks, a polyester tie, and have a bad haircut!!!

As for Talesin's remark, I think long hairstyles in the world of dub-dom were not a candian thing then, people were well enough just comfortable to see long hairstyles on Canadian Hockey.

Preston, here`s a little story from, hmm, just before my brother got married, he was 17; 1971 or `72.

Actually, the hippie trend was very big here, and all the boys were trying to get away with having their hair as long as they could push it ...

My brother came home from the barber one day, his hair was a bit too long for `company` standards. My father marched him back to the barbershop and directed the barber to ensure it was above the ears, above the collar. Oh, I remember that day well. My brother was sooo embarrassed, and furious, but, that was the way.

The b`Org were very strict here with the hair thing. The elders Hair Nazis were vigilant in those days.

Not at our hall. One of the elders tried, but my father (elder) got on his case real bad. My father also told one of the teenage boys that he could not give a talk in the ministry school if he didn't get his hair cut. So the boy got a nice cut and came to the meeting prepared to give the talk. When he walked into the hall, it had been raining and his hair was a bit rumpled, but before he could make it to the restroom to comb it, my father cornered him and told him he could not give the talk because of his hair. That was the last time that this boy ever attended.

Funny, when my father told me about his counseling the elder about the "hair over his ears," he commented, "A person can't hear with hair over his ears." I picked the hair up off my own ears, and said, "What did you say?"
