No - if you have clinical depression get help from a phsycologist or phsychiatrist many of our brothers are in these professions - and it is like having diabetes or other illness we would not hesitate to go to a doctor so too if we have a mental illness we should go to a doctor and not feel guilty about it

Hah, that was predictable! My wife had depression problems in the past, and each psychologist ended up telling her that the JW religion was highly controlling and partly to blame. When she heard this, the JW gut reaction would kick in and she'd go to a different psychologist. I think she went through three of them before we finally left the org and it all become so clear. lol

Of course, if the counselor is a JW, professional confidentiality will be violated if they think they need to "report" you to the elders.
Go to a non-JW counselor if you want your privacy honored.

WOW! there must have been a spike in suicides for them to finally come around. i hope its no too late for my sister.

Depression has been a MAJOR problem in the organization for many years. I'm amazed it has taken them so long to address this issue.
