Jeannie,
Ask your vet for a pill delivery tube. It costs about $5. You put the pill in the end, open the cat mouth and pop in the pill. Hold the cat's mouth shut (not too tightly) and rub his throat. When he licks his nose, the pill is swallowed.
The tubes come in handy. They look like a hypodermic without the needle. I had a hard time getting my cat, Elvis, to take his pills and the tube worked fabulously.

Yeah, it works, but grinding up the pill and mixing it with tuna was much more pleasant for both of us. Why do docs always make thing so difficult???

Andi and Jeannie the reason for getting the whole pill down the cats mouth is because most of the time they won't or don't eat the entire tuna and then don't get the full amount of medicine and they don't get better. They need the full dosage. It sounds mean and I hated doing it to our cat I had to remind myself every time it was for his own good and well being.
The delivery tube sounds like a much simpler way I hope you can get one Jeannie. And don't forget the to reward Johnny with a treat afterward it will make him forget the yucky pill.
