You know when a person is a JW they don't consider themselves pests, but in accuality they are , It only took me 38 years to figure it out and if I was ever at your door I apoligize.

Come and visit us from time to time. Almost everyone one of us use to be witnesses. Yuck!!

Yes you are courteous and have respect and if the next witness that calls at your home just tell them to take your name and address off of their witness work and they will stop coming .

    Respectfully

AA, I went over to witnessworld to see what the big deal was and the next thing I knew I was picking myself off the floor because I'd fallen asleep while reading (not really -- that's, like, a metaphor for how incredibly boring the whole thing was). Tough to make good conversation when you have to clear every sentence with the Watchtower.

Jehovah's Witnesses have a Do Not Call procedure. If you call the congregation nearest to where you live and ask that they not call (be firm), they can put your name, number and address in the territory to alert any JWs who check out that area to call on the people. It is not foolproof but it is one way to make a practical stab at getting them to stop coming.

Use www.infospace.com and enter either Kingdom Hall or Jehovah's Witnesses

I remember a common practice among the Jehovah?s Witnesses was to bring along a mentally handicapped person, in order to get sympathy from the people they were harassing

Hey! That was me you cheeky soandso Anyway I wasn't handicapped I was just zoned out cos of all the antidepressants I was on when I was a JW

If the JW's ever stop you outside a supermarket again tell them you heard on the news politics had turned on religion and they had better run in the supermarket and stock up on provisions for the great tribulation. Watch 'em run! Those crazy dubs

Everyday Joe said: With the new laws affecting telemarketers, I?m sure it?s only a matter of time before the Jehovah?s Witnesses are no longer allowed to harass people in their private residences.

That's what we're hoping for, although I don't think this'll stop them. Witnesses like to use the example of how Daniel defied the order of the day by the government, not to pray and he did anyway. Witnesses will simply think this is form of persecution and Satan de Debbil trying to "stop the preaching work" and there will be those who would risk arrest and prison rather than stop going out in service. They'll quote the scripture "..as for us, we cannot stop preaching.."

When I was growing up, I remember a common practice among the Jehovah?s Witnesses was to bring along a mentally handicapped person, in order to get sympathy from the people they were harassing. Are you still allowed to take advantage of the handicapped?

Hmmm.......I'm not sure if they took the handicapped people along to get sympathy. I always thought it was because NO ONE was exempt from the obligation to go out banging on doors.

Is this why you are now pestering folks in public? Are you no longer allowed to invade peoples? privacy?

You're still allowed to go from door to door, but the reason they're bugging people out in public places now, is because they can't find people at home like they did 20 years ago. Far from letting these people get away from hearing their preaching, Witnesses are indeed told that they should approach people in shopping mall parking lots, bus stops or any other public place. Not that it'll do any good, but with 0% increases over the past several years, the powers that be in the Organization, would never stop to say "this is counter productive and there's little point in going out preaching like this anymore", because that would give Witnesses free time and a chance to sleep in on Saturday mornings----a huge threat to the Organization.

Now that I think about it, there were several folks in my KH who were a little challenged. It's understandable how they were sucked in ... but as for the rest of us .... hmmm

** "...a common practice among the Jehovah?s Witnesses was to bring along a mentally handicapped person, in order to get sympathy ..." ** I wonder if walking slowly from one door to the next, and standing at an unanswered door for 5 minutes is viewed by others as being MENTALLY HANDICAPPED? I never thought of that before, but Everyday Joe's comment makes one wonder . . .
