Pole - having spent some time with JW relatives this weekend, you're so right about the 'drug' problem. Sometimes you just want to shake them.
Would you want to go back to that 'illusion and fantasy'?

Gill ---- It sounded more like the arch bishop was really wanting to say blaspheme when it came to the belief that people will never grow old and die in this world when the bible clearly says it's true . You tell me , blaspheme is what ? ...............

The possibility that what the Bible says is not true is something that free thought allows to accept as a possibility while not necessarily denying it. I want the freedom and others to have the freedom to have that free thought.
what is blaspemy? You tell me....but I, you and everyone should not fear thinking thoughts that might challenge accepted beliefs and structures including beliefs that some take as Certain.

As I sat in church the other day, I looked at all the choir people and listened to the preacher and knew that I personally didn't buy a bit of it and believed they were all worshipping thin air. It seemed strange to me, being there with these sincere people, and believing they were so in love with this god that didn't exist. It was almost surreal.
I would never go back to the fantasy world. If it's ever proved to me, then it wouldn't be a fantasy. But as long as there's no proof, I can't see me being involved in it again.

I read a great line the other day Atheist= one who believes in one less god then a believer

Blaspheme is the act of stating untruths about God and his intents and purposes .IMO Websters has a little different definition of -- to desecrate with impious talk , to speak irreverently of God . I'm sure there are more definitions out there tho .
All I can really say is if the arch bishop hopes to die in this world he will more than likely get his chance .

Honesty
But imagine having to live forever and yet never being able to have a free thought of your own, or even your own opinion on something without being jumped on and punished for it.
And that's how a lot of us used to live.
It beggars the question -do we really need to live in fear of the WTBTs and it's henchmen the 'elders'?
The miserable JW's are told that they may get into Paradise if they do all the book publishing company tells them. I have a better idea. Why don't they fire the publishing company and think for themselves.

You are right honesty, a publishing corporation cannot grant anybody eternal life and them taking the FDS position and constatly beating their fellow slaves is not going to get them what they want . BTW , when did they ever have food at the proper time ?

Heathen - morning! I don't think that the Archbishop was 'hoping' to die in this world but he accepted it as an unavoidable fact.
Wasn't Jesus talking about living in paradise to the people around him, but they all died? It seems to be an unavoidable fact of life. The pipe dream that it isn't and we will never die physically is held out by the WTBTS and other very fundamentalist cults.
Freedom to think allows us to accept that fact as a fact and adapt and live our lives with that inevitability in sight and yet accept that there may be more to our lives anyway.

He said, or words to this effect, that he felt pity for those who believed that they would never grow old, suffer illness and death in this life, and 'God help them' because of the illusion that they were living under.
If that doesn't mean he looks forward to dying in this world then man am I ever silly .
BTW --- jesus said alot of things on account he didn't know himself when he would return in kingdom power . The early church had the hope of not dying in this world but since the conclusion of this system of things did not take place in their day it is still pending .It's still a promise that jesus made that all those faithful and true would not die in this world when he returns in kingdom power . The WTBTS has it wrong on alot of these issues . They believe he took kingdom power invisibly in 1914 when it's clear to me the scriptures talk about a more totalitarian rulership . He returns to earth with the city of new jerusalem during the great tribulation .The only ones allowed in are those that are invited to the marriage feast of the lamb . The WTBTS does not believe that jesus returns to earth and rule .
