Why is an elder removed?

I agree that it could be a number of factors, some even justified such as immorality, over drinking, etc.

This is the likely culprit though:

It could mean that he is not being a "team player."

You have to tow the company line so to speak and if you dont then they find a way to get rid of you. Bottom line is that I think someone influential didnt like him. The chicken elders that went along with it are probably the ones that asked him to pray that night to ease their own guilt not to help him. Its all a sham!

WillyLoman's post was excellent and spot on. I also think that you may not be getting the entire truth from the wife or anyone else connected to the issue. The wife may not be on board with him and be embarrassed by his doubts. Who knows?!

You just can't imagine how exceptional he is, especially in his teaching.
    He is my favorite elder.

It sounds like he is an intelligent and sensitive person. Maybe he is suffering silently from depression (after Serving Jehovah? for several decades without seeing fulfillment of promises, it's entirely likely) and the Body of Elders? is trying to take the pressure off him. This would certainly be plausible if the brother was still being used for certain Privileges? that normally are reserved just for Elders?. Often times people with depression are embarrassed to ask for help or to delegate responsibilities to others, so it may have been case of the other Elders? and the CO telling him he could take a breather while he gets himself well again. I really hope this is how it would play out - it's in stark contrast to my own experience with being depressed as a JW... but I noticed recently the WTS has come out with New Light? on how to treat depressed people with compassion. Too little too late for me though.

Thank you everyone for your comments.

Amazing how we learn so much more about how the org runs from here than we do at the hall.

I don't feel so much in the dark about this.

I agree with the "not being a team player." Much like my situation when I stepped aside (told em to take this job and shove it). Just an announcement of deletion, kept doing all activities; prayer, conduct bookstudy, etc. - just not an elder anymore.

My "sin of not being a team player"? Making sure and elder, and sister involved, that commited serious sin got the same due process of appeals, just like everyone else; and not being fast-tracked into dis-fellowshipment and announcement in three days. Not playing the game of cover up so the Society could happily claim you are always treated better in the congregation ... instead of being backstabbed, slandered, and falsely accused by the status climbing "wanna be PO" elder in the congregation (and another one in a sister congregation), CO and "Godless" so called anointed DO - like the Society claims happens in the corporate world. Funny, I've always been treated with much more respect and consideration in the corporate world.

I went to an elder's home to use his computer, i went to the "view history" to go back to some places that i had visited the day before, and there were all these porn sites listed, there were also porn sites in his favorites listing. I never told anyone ( not even my husband), I didnt want to embarrass him or his family. He was so nice about letting me use his computer whenever i needed and his wife also was very loving and helpful towards my family. I wasnt my business..simple as that.

I found this out today about the child abuse situation in my congo. The parents did report it to a shrink and was given a report of what happened. It had been going on for quite some time. The shrink reported it to the proper authorities.

The elder body told the parents to just forget about it..........even after getting the report of the findings from the shrink.

The parents of the abused child has moved to another congo.

The father did call the Society and was advised to take it all the way.

They will be going to court. Apparently the father of the older boy does not believe his son did this.

The elder that was removed(will do update on that thread) was removed by recommendation of the CO, as the elder felt that the father of the child that did the abuse needed to have priveledges removed while under investigation. (Did not have control over his family) The elder is the Grandfather of the abused child.

The father(of the child that did the abusing) did give emblems at the Memorial.

I think it is destroying the congregation, but that is just my opinion.

An elder can be deleted for several reasons ie drunkenness, affair, not having children in subjection etc.

What is not told is that an elder can also get deleted for not going along with the whole body even if they're acting unjustly.

I have seen cases in California where an elder stands against an injustice and the whole body feeling threatened trumps up charges against him. Brother appeals the decision, society sends CO & tells the elder that he has to go along with the body even if they are wrong. Just sit & wait as Jesus sees everything anyway was their answer. Exodus 23:2 says something very different. If an elder applies that verse & has guts to go against the grain, he can be accused of running ahead of theocratic order, pride, and unreasonable. Hence result will be deletion.

Sad thing is that a couple elders knew that the charges were false but out of fear kept quiet and elder was deleted.

The sad truth is that The Watchtower Society is willing to sacrifice justice & truth for the sake of imposed unity. "Unity at all cost"

Very Disappointing to say the least. Elders that are cowards, don't stand up for anything, go along with whatever the majority say must be done will very likely remain as an elder for a long time. Any elder that actually cares about the congregation, and avoids playing politics will not last very long.

The elder may have finally woke up.

I chose to step down due to a lot of reasons.

When I was 'appointed' I told them I didn't want to do it but they kept insisting that I could help the congregation.

"Why doesn't the Holy Spirit help the congregation?" kept going through my mind over and over and over after seeing all the thibngs I saw.

Then one day I realised that the Holy Spirit is nowhere to be found in 'Jehovah's' organisation so I quit.

The announcement was made that I had been 'deleted' from the 'Body' two days after I told the other brothers.

It still took 9 years to figure out it is a cult.
