He works out of this parish. I have no idea about his background dealing with ex-JWs...I would prefer an ex-JW without a religious angle.

Before going to anyone, check his/her credentials with your state licensing board (psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers usually require licensure). Some states allow you to view disciplinary records as well, and to verify a licensee has not been disciplined.
Also google the name to see if any scandals come up. If he/she claims to belong to a professional organization, check with that org to verify membership.

Good idea, coffee...I know her personally and it slipped my mind. She was the first person we contacted. She has put many people all over the country in contact with ex-JWs that can help.
She works along with this group. They have a conference coming up the end of June that my hubbie and I will be attending.
